We gave this place another try today (October 11th) after not visiting since they first opened in 2015 when I unfortunately found a hair in the condiments back then. I really wanted to give them a fair second chance, especially with all the great write-ups and the awards and Texas Monthly features over the years from being ranked #6 in 2017 to earning more mentions since ~ I really wanted this visit to change my mind. Unfortunately, it didn’t.
We ordered two brisket sandwiches (mine lean with bark, my husband’s moist with bark), plus green beans, macaroni salad, tea, and water. Our total was $49.52. When we checked out, the Server, Elizabeth turned the iPad screen around and the first thing that popped up was a tipping prompt ~ before we’d even received our food or had any interaction beyond ordering. That just feels off; a tip should reflect service, not be expected upfront.
Unfortunately, my sandwich was extremely salty. I added barbecue sauce to it. For the record, good barbecue shouldn’t need barbecue sauce and I only added sauce in hopes of masking the saltiness of the brisket. I went to the counter to mention it and was told by the Server, Elizabeth that it was probably because I ordered it with bark which I’ve done for years at countless BBQ places, and it’s never been this salty. Then another staff member (the bartender) chimed in to say the same thing, which felt a bit unnecessary and dismissive. I wasn’t looking for an argument ~ just wanted to exchange it for something I could actually eat. Also, my husband’s sandwich was salty and dry.
They offered to swap it for something else. I chose sausage, but before it even came out, I realized ~ why stay for something I didn’t want anyway? The sides weren’t great either: green beans with no flavor and macaroni salad was dry and very light on mayonnaise.
After we left, my husband called and spoke with the manager (Trey, I think), who said he wished we’d stayed so he could “make it right” and mentioned their many awards. But the issue wasn’t about accolades, it was about attitude, flavor, and value. But we were already gone ~ and honestly, the right thing would’ve been to refund our money.
For a place with such a strong following and reputation, the food, high prices and service just didn’t match the hype. I expected better food, service, and hospitality. I guess to each their own, but this was our second try ~...
Read moreThis is hands down the best BBQ spot this side of Tomball and may I even say Spring. All the other places I’ve been too need a gimmick to get you in. This place is a great representation of what Texas bbq should be in my opinion. If I lived closer I’d be here every day.
Everything was tasty including the beans and I don’t like beans lol
-UPDATE as of 2025 Three years later and it’s just as good as my memory remembered" 😆
Ever since I first had a taste of their burnt brisket ends, they’ve lived rent-free in my mind. I finally made it back after three years, and I’m happy to say the food is every bit as amazing as I remembered. The meat melts in your mouth. The BBQ here is so flavorful it doesn’t even need sauce, and coming from someone who puts BBQ sauce on just about everything, that’s saying a lot.
Honestly, this place is better than your favorite BBQ spot. Think of it as the BBQ your favorite BBQ joint gets inspiration from (whether they realize it or not).
We arrived around 11:30 on a Saturday, and the crowd wasn’t too bad. The line moved quickly, and before we knew it, we were seated and diving into some of the best BBQ around.
Watching my friend take his first bite made me smile. I could practically see the neurons firing as a grin spread across his face without him even realizing it. Then he made a comment about comparing this BBQ to his father’s BBQ😮... let’s just say I’m taking that one to the grave.
The fact that food can be so good it sparks realizations about what you truly like (and maybe what you don’t) says everything about the power of a great meal. Add in good company, open conversation, and Tejas BBQ… and you’ve got an experience worth remembering.
I digress, Tejas you guys are doing a stellar job and I...
Read moreSimply amazing! My son Kevin & Wife Tracy live in Tomball. My wife Elaine and I come to Tejas every time we visit from LA. We just finished up there 9/22/23 at 2pm.
Food: out of this world. I had the Dino 🦖 bone it was like heavenly brisket on a bone. Second to none. My wife Elaine and daughter in law Tracy had brisket that was the best they ever had. It melted in your mouth. My wife Elaine took a bite of my Dino 🦕 bone and said it was the best she ever had. Son Kevin had the Brisket spud which was simply outstanding. We all had the carrot soufflé which was best ever, smooth, silky and melted in your mouth with pure ecstasy as it went down your palate. My drink was shiner’s brewers pride barrel aged beer which pairs with the food perfectly.
Service: Big shout out to Crystal , Madison, Bryan and Rye. It was the best service ever. The were fun, friendly, professional and made you feel right at home like family. The service is every bit as good as the food.
Atmosphere: Warm, friendly, homey and family oriented. It makes you immediately feel right at home. One of the best parts is the warm and friendly patrons that are dining with you.
This is a MUST dining stop you will not be disappointed.
