What a local gem! I had NO idea The Whistle Stop Tea Room was so incredible and so close to my home. TWSTR is conveniently located in the center of Old Tomball, with plenty of parking even on a super busy Friday lunch hour.
Seating Hack: you can call ahead and put your name on the list. DO IT!!
We arrived Friday right around noon, big mistake! Well, kinda! We put our name down on the list. There are no beepers or tech to let you don't know when you're table is ready, so we had to keep checking back.
But...in the meantime we had an excuse to check out the local boutiques! (Oh yeah! I forgot I needed a Baby shower gift! ) By the time our table was ready, we had checked out two of many of the adjacent shops!
The place was packed with "ladies who lunch". The newer decor is Gorgeous! The chandeliers and soft color palette are so beautiful and inviting. TWSTR is one of the more elegant tea rooms I've been to locally. No shabby chic, grandmother's designed decor here!
The menu is very flexible. Any combo goes here! Soup, sandwich, salad?! Your pick 1, 2 or 3.
We all opted for the chicken salad on croissant. I mean it is a tea room. The soup and salads my friends had were all great! Each combo came with an ANOTHER side. We tried the pasta salad and the broccoli Salad. Wow! These "sides" were not only filling, but amazingly tasty! The pasta salad was unusual, not something I've had before. I loved it.
Unfortunately, we ate everything and had no room for their amazingly scrumptious looking pies! (Excuse for second visit? YES)
We were so lucky to visit with the friendly owner, who was very gracious and kind. I will definitely be back to TWSTR. The food was great, the service was outstanding and I love supporting local businesses!
Take away; Call ahead to put your name on list at least 15 minutes before you arrive! Leave room...
Read moreThe cake was delicious but the service was HORRIBLE and from the owner!!! After being showed to our table I sat down my 5 month olds car seat next to the table to take off my jacket and before I could get an arm out the owner walks up, touches the handle of the carseat and says, literally, "You need to move that right now". I was so taken aback that it took me a second to respond so she goes on to say "I am the owner here and that needs to be moved, NOW". I was still completely in shock that #1 my child is refered to as "that" and #2 the sheer rudeness of how I was approached. She then explains that it was a tripping hazard so I moved the carseat to a chair. While my child wasn't in the middle of the walkway but right next to the table where a chair would have sat, I totally understand the concern but the approach was completely rude and borderline offensive. To add to the horrid start, I ordered the special for the day and we also had cake which another member of our party was paying for since they did not prepare a cake like she had requested the week before. When I went to pay my check the lady at the register looks at my ticket and asks didn't I have cake. Now, if you think there is something that should be on my bill that isn't take that up with the server. Don't shake down customers like they are attempting to steal something! I had to tell her all the cake was together on another bill. Not only that, the owner informed our party that they Saturday's are really busy and our party had an hour and a half to eat. I have never been treated so terrible! NEVER AGAIN, the cake wasn't THAT...
Read moreWent there Saturday with my wife. Been there a few time in the past. Food always good. Prices always way over the top on what you get, but went anyway. Ordered two meals, three desserts to go. Lunch good. Had to wait 10 minutes just to check out. Here’s my big beef about this place, it has changed in a negative way. Paid with credit card, and now instead of you writing in a tip, they want you to pick from either 18%, 20% or 25% (I believe the last one was 25%) I always leave tip, but if that is my only option when presented the bill and being pressured to pick one and not put in what you feel is right. No good. I chose the lesser of them. Not happy with there new system. And, when I got home later that night, opened up the key lime pie that we took home to go. It looked like it was just scooped and thrown in the container upside down. Looked like a blob of who knew what. That’s what we got for $65. Kinda outrageous for two meals and three desserts. We can go to many other places for less and for better food and service. After seeing the dessert and thinking about the way I was presented the bill. That’s it. Your run is over with me...
