El ranchero Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Toms River

Dined in, Saturday, 09/07/2024, approximately 7:30 p. This is the second time eating here. The first time service was too slow and the food was not where it should have been (just over a year ago). This time the food was good and service efficient. Chicken Tacos with ample amount of grilled chicken, plenty of salsa on hand; that you did not have to ask for more. Guacamole was fresh and good, could have been slightly more spicy. Horchata was good. The place appeared clean. Check was correct / prices matched menu. I would give this place another try.

Since the above review we have eaten here a couple of times. Including one time when we talked with the Owner ( Son ) whom seemed nice and we shared about ourselves; that my Spouse is from Mexico. And I obviously being a white ( Caucasian ) male.

Fast forward to today. Monday,06/09/2025, 7:30 p.

The same owner (Son) brought food out to other patrons, ( the other tables were all Latino), talked with them even though all the tables were waited on by Eduardo. The owner walked past us 3 times not even saying hello, which I thought was odd.

We waited over 30 minutes for our food. My entree was not good. A Burrito with ground Beef that was swimming in grease. It had alot of meat, but very little rice and beans. I had requested pico de gallo instead of fries, which was a tiny portion that was like diced tomatoes.

I complained to the Server, and said I would take it to go.

Eduardo ( Eddy ) is a VERY GOOD SERVER whom we know from another restaurant. He was very apologetic, brought a to-go container and the check which had the Burrito removed. The Owner never stepped out to speak with us.

I asked Eduardo whose suggestion it was to remove it from the check, he replied it was his, ( not the owner.)

I shared my other concerns of other than the food,with Eduardo to pass along to management.

I cannot say for sure, but only time will tell if my assumptions are right.

Anyone whom is similar to my Spouse and I, should observe if they are treated differently.

I will not return to patronize / support this business again.

With intent, I left the Burritto in the to go container there. The waiter was tipped on what would have been the full check.

If you’re looking for FRESH, HOMEMADE AND MADE WITH LOVE Mexican Food... this is the spot!! My family and I tried it today for the first time and it will NOT be our last! Portions are so huge you literally have leftovers for the next day, everything was fresh for each order and the salsas are on point! Even their avocados were perfect (no browning, no mush) and their wait staff was professional and kind and that’s a plus!! We ordered the al pastor and carnitas tacos (were fantastic and tender), tostadas (huge portion fresh crispy tostada and meat was tender), Bistec Rancho (huge portion and steak was cooked perfectly along with the sides that it came with being really good) and we ordered two Cemita sandwiches (we literally could’ve gotten away with ordering one because they’re the size of your face literally but both were freaking awesome) I’m telling you our table looked like a buffet and there was enough for everyone to share there own food AND still have leftovers!!!! To begin, this review is based on a catering service not a dine in experience I had with the restaurant. I had an event catered by them at their banquet hall called Babylonia Banquet Hall located in the old K-mart plaza. The owner was very personable, made us comfortable with making sure we got everything we wanted. When deciding on the menu it was an easy process with no issues with my requests. The day of the event the staff arrived on time to set up the buffet, and the service was executed well. No complaints. We got positive feedback from our guests stating that the food was very good with a top favorite being the Molcajete Ranchero. The price was reasonable for the amount of food we received. Overall I would recommend it to friends and family, good service and true authentic Mexican food. Thank you Rodrigo...
