Danger room 143!
In addition to everything you are to read please know that this hotel is claiming NOT TO HAVE ANY SECURITY CAMERAS BY THE BOTTOM STORY SLIDERS TO YOUR ROOMS, WHICH ARE RIGHT OFF THE HIGHWAY. In my opinion this alone is a crime and extremely scary as it is not only right off the sidewalk along a main road, but also in the courtyard by the pool. Those sliders locks are flimsy at best so beware for your safety, because if something happens you are on your own!
We had a small house fire recently so my husband, 3 small children and I had to stay in a pet friendly hotel. Choosing this one based on location we checked in on 5/19. On 5/21/2018 I was walking my dogs on a proper double leash and harness right in front of my rooms slider door. I was not outside for more then a minutes when my world and my childrenâs hearts was irrevocably crushed. A women staying in 143 (for what it seems to have been months) opened her slider, walked away and lit a ciggerate while leaving it open. A minute later her huge pit bull ran out and started attacking myself and my 2 small leashed dogs. I managed to get them both pulled into my arms by keeping my back towards the pit bull and taking his bites and gashes across my back. Thats when the pit bull lunges so fast attaching onto my forarm and my dogs back leg, ripping him from his harness and my arms. 4 men from her room couldnât stop the dog that kept biting myself and Bingo. Finally picking him up in his jaws and running into the highway while shaking him viciously with myself screaming & running into traffic to get him. But it was to late, I couldnât run fast enough. The pit bull gave bingo one last throw into an oncoming car and only when he realized my precious dog was dead did he stop biting him. My husband tried cpr but it was to late. My little 13lb dog was covered in bite marks, broken bones and gone. Howard Johnson knew this womenâs dog was dangerous, they had reports before yet put my family and small children next to her without any inclination of the aggression they had seen. I have since been treated for multiple bite wounds, lacerations, torn muscle in forearm were my baby was ripped from my arms and multiple bruises and aches. HOW COULD THE HOTEL ALLOW THIS. What if I had my kids out there with me, its literally on the path to the pool. I noticed a social worker or something knocking on her room door earlier that day only to have the dog go after her and her slam the door and make the women come out to the hallway to speak to her. Why wasnât something said! Why is my family grieving and my amazing dog gone way to soon. He was so scared. I tried so hard. My heart is so broken and every time I close my eyes I see it. So please, whatever you do, do NOT stay at this dangerous hotel. They didnât even want to see my dogs papers I brought with me when I checked in and I should have gone somewhere else at that moment, but this seemed like the best options for pets. Little did I know it would be the place I had to kiss my dogs broken and bitten body goodbye. Please share this to everyone you know and care about. As of now the police, animal control and the health department are all involved, but I feel itâs my job to inform the public. The front desk knew of the aggressive dog and women with zero control over it, yet said NOTHING! I will also be posting the video once the front desk releases it. I feel like if it helps spread the word and saves even one person from the devastating grief my family is feeling, Bingo didnât give his...

We provide seminars for healthcare providers and have tried this hotel before and had issues. We reluctantly decided to try again because we were assured by management they had taken care of the SAME issues we had the last few times we have used them. After conducting a seminar this past weekend this is what an attendee wrote to us..
"Sept 29-30, 2018 - The place was so undesirable! The place was not only old, which is okay but not old in a quaint way.
First: The person at the front desk was a bit unclear. He was very nice but unclear. (The Sales Dept. should be communicating with all staff members of upcoming events and be prepared)
Second: The seminar started at 8am, they should have had side doors unlocked and ready by 7:30am. Also, the restaurant sign said open 11am to me means the staff should be ready to seat & serve BY 11am - they were not where near ready. The food at the bar was delicious and they were ready by 11:30ish. (Any restaraunt with good management is ready on time to serve their guests - not make them wait)
Third: We were told the seminar would be downstairs and there was no elevator service. The staircase was dark the meeting room was musty and there were no convenient restrooms. (We were assured that this issue had been addressed - but obviously it was not - and this is not just an issue of spraying some fabreeze to mask the smell - there is a serious ventalation issue - which IS A HEALTH RISK)
Fourth: The bathrooms were UPSTAIRS. We had to walk thru the bar, when we got to restroom, they were in a word GROSS! The smell was horrible! The soap dispenser was almost off wall and nozzle broken, and the toilet was seat broken. It was just AWEFUL! (This is completely unacceptable - we do not live in a 3rd world country - again a HEALTH RISK)
Fifth: And just for information the hotel rooms were old. I was not expecting a Weston/Hilton, but it was less than great place!
And then there were THE BUGS! OH MY!! I know all the attendees were more or less grossed out". (Again, we were assured that this issue had been taken care of by a professional exterminator, but it was not - this is not as simple as putting down a few bug traps or spraying some Raid bug killer - this is were food and alcohol is served - this place needs to be condemmed - another HEALTH RISK)
As a fellow business owner, we contacted Freddie at the hotel and this was his response "If your people are going to complain every time you come here, then don't come back".
We are shocked and appaled by the lack of professionalism, integrity, and the lack of attention to detail and overall cleanliness. It would appear that they do not want any special event business.
The Ocean County Township will be contacted and a formal complaint...
Read moreI really wanted to believe the poor reviews of this hotel were wrong since is was one of the few hotels to have a indoor pool which was a must for our kids. Our son plays travel hockey and had a game nearby, and that's what brought us here.||Cons:|This hotel was very smokey! People were openly smoking in the hallway. As another review had mentioned, there were homeless people walking the hallways! A man was knocking on our door at 2:30am. I opened our door and the man said "oh, sorry wrong room"!!!. The floor had dog hair covering it that we saw the next morning when the sun was shining on the floor (we didn't bring a pet.) The hotel lost power, and it was 66 degrees in our room. The bathroom was so nasty. The shower faucet leaked a constant stream, and the bathtub was stained (see pictures) and had cigarette burns. You can hear neighbors talking & TV when trying to sleep. The bed frames are aluminum panels that are SO noisy if you accidentally knock it with your foot as you get into bed in the middle of the night, and when you turn in bed. It was very strange choice of bed frame! Only had coffee in lobby. They no longer offer anything for breakfast, but the Toms River diner was great. There was a man swimming in his underwear with his daughter that was swimming in her fleece nightgown. No towels in pool area.|The front desk girl was not welcoming and seemed miserable. She was there in the evening when we checked in, and the following morning when we checked out. She never asked how our stay was, and no mention or apology for the loss of power we experienced that morning. I got a text to select a text a time we wanted to check out. 11am was the latest option listed, even though check-out time is 12pm, so I responded to text asking this, and they didn't respond until the following day once we were home!||Pros:|Has a pool (pool area needs a face-lift)|Nice outdoor patio area|Has an attached restuarant that was good. But expensive for bar food. (Spent $80 on dinnr)|Room was large with high ceilings.|Balcony was nice to get fresh air since the room was smoky, and let in a lot of...
