We used to patronize this place once or twice per month until a few months ago when my wife had a negative experience inside. Since then, we’ve limited our purchases to occasional to-go orders.
Our last order (two weeks ago) was not a good experience. Neither of our orders were correct. We didn’t bother to call and just chalked it up to a bad night. We ordered again tonight (General Tso’s and Sichuan chicken. We’ve both had these dishes before over the years from many places in multiple states. I am pretty sure we’ve had them here.
The young man that interacted with me read the order back. It was written correctly. When we opened the food at home, we were greeted with two fried chicken dishes. The sauce on one was slightly darker than the other; a few flakes of something resembling a pepper skin were visible. Other than that, they tasted exactly the same: like a sugar cube with salt. The chicken pieces had no visible evidence of being chicken: it was more breading than anything. The droplets of hot mustard that came with the dishes turned out to taste like watered down regular mustard.
I wanted the Sichuan chicken. Most that I have eaten have been stir-fried with vegetables. There are a couple of descriptions online of the dish’s meat being deep-fried. The box of flavored breading in front of me had nothing resembling vegetables.
Since it was the second problem, I went ahead and called. Naturally, the employee and the manager denied responsibility and swore that the dishes were correct. It crossed my mind to argue the case but felt it was simpler to mark this place off of my list. It has lost the right to be called a Chinese restaurant. Next time I will go to Grantsville, eat at Panda Express or just...
Read moreWe decided to try Hunan Village on Saturday when we were in town for an appointment. I have to say I love traditional Utah Chinese restaurants, always have, restaurants like Red Dragon Chinese Bistro, which is my current fave, to Kowloon Cafe that is now permanently closed, the food is always some of the best comfort food around. Having said that we were so pleased with our meal. First off the restaurant was very clean and the servers were very welcoming. I loved the traditional Chinese decor. We both ordered from the lunch menu, my husband started with the egg drop soup, I had the hot and sour soup, both soups were very good, my husband was very impressed with the egg drop soup. The cream cheese wontons were excellent, perfectly made and so crispy, they are called cheese puffs on the menu. My husband had the prawns with vegetables along with ham fried rice, he really enjoyed it. I had their version of General Tso’s chicken, it was delicious. The ham fried was not a stand out. Overall we just really enjoyed the whole meal, the portions were big, we had leftovers to take home and the price point is so reasonable. We are excited to take our kids...
Read moreI am not used to complain, unless... SERVICE: The young teen-age "waiting staff" had no sense of direction, or urgency. I had to wait more than 10 minutes for my salad to arrive after the order was taken, and another 15 for my dinner. (after I asked my waitress to check on it) FOOD: I ordered black mushroom beef which, arrived with plenty of uncooked green peas, but NO mushrooms. As I showed the waitress, she questioned me and asked me to look under the beef on the plate. Needless to say.... no mushrooms. She did not even make the effort to take it back to the kitchen until I imposed myself, let alone apologize. Needless to say, she never came back to check on me, even if another server came back another 10 minutes later with the added mushrooms in my plate. First AND last time for me at the Hunan Village for sure. Pretty negative...
