Wow. I live very close to Jong's Thai Kitchen and have wanted to try it for months. Unfortunately they were always packed when I wanted to grab lunch close to home. Today, I made a quick reservation and got to try them out. Note: I strongly recommend reservations, even for lunch. Even better is to plan and reserve more than a day in advance, at least for your first visit. Needing to make a reservation is simply indicative of just how good a restaurant is. While waiting for my food, I observed that about half were new customers, while the other half were obviously regulars. I could see in customer's eyes the appreciation for not only the food, but also the staff/owners. The goal of Jong's is a smaller family place with a relaxed, comfortable vibe and Thai food that is authentic and fantastic. They nailed it. I had a beef noodle curry which comes with simple plain rice. I love spicy food, and ordered it hot (not Thai hot). As soon as my food arrived, I could tell it was made from scratch and truly made to order. In fact I could hear the kitchen prepping the vegetables cooked in my dish as I was closest to the kitchen. I'll give a friendly warning that the spice levels here are true to authentic Thai food. Even if you appreciate hot and spicy, their spicy/hot dishes should be well more than adequate. Most places tamp down the Thai food spiciness level for American palettes. Not here. Again, I am impressed with the authenticity and freshness of their food! I met 2 of the owners who came to personally welcome me half way through my meal. As a native Topekan, I've always wished that we had less chain restaurants and more family and small businesses in our community. Jong's has the feel of a Parisian cafe, is as welcoming as a hometown diner, and serves Thai food that cannot be bested in the area. While not cheap, their prices are more than reasonable for the quality and what you get. Dinner here for a first date would be perfect in my opinion. I'm not paid to write this, nor did I know the staff or owners. I am simply a Topekan who loves Thai food. Not only did I discover the best Thai food this afternoon, I also found my new, favorite restaurant. The atmosphere and staff combined with the food put Jong's over the top. If you are a Topekan, I encourage you to give Jong's a try and support family owned local businesses. If you are from out of town, a meal at Jong's will not only be worth the time to plan ahead, but I feel will help make your visit to our city one to remember. I was told that people will drive here from Kansas City an hour away, even for lunch. After my experience today, I don't doubt that this is the truth. Most enthusiastically and highly...

Read moreWhile road-tripping from Denver to Missouri, we searched for vegetarian-friendly spots as soon as we entered Kansas and came across Jong’s Thai Kitchen. The stellar reviews drew us in—and we’re so glad they did! It was a quick detour off the highway and easy to find, making it a convenient and worthwhile stop.
When we arrived, the dining room was reserved for a private party, so takeout was the only option. We were warmly greeted and told there would be up to a one-hour wait. For some, that might be a dealbreaker—but to us, it was just another sign that the food was worth the buzz.
We placed our order: • Thai Classic Fried Rice with tofu (no egg) • Pad Thai with tofu (no egg) • Veggie Egg Rolls • Crab Delight
We ordered both entrees “hot” and were offered refreshing iced tea while we waited—a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture on a hot and humid day.
The wait ended up being around 45 minutes, but we spent the time playing at the park across the street and hardly noticed. Once we got the call, we grabbed our food and dug in immediately—and WOW. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The Thai Fried Rice and Veggie Egg Rolls were standout favorites—absolutely phenomenal. Generous portions, vibrant flavor, and everything cooked perfectly.
To top it all off, they included a sweet dessert with a handwritten “thank you for waiting” note, which really made our day.
This place is 100% worth the stop—and the wait. If we were local, Jong’s would absolutely be part of our regular rotation. We’re headed to Missouri now but already planning to swing by again on our way back to Denver. If you’re on the fence about stopping here, take this as your sign: Do it. You...
