The steak and burgers were over cooked, and possibly the driest meat I've had this side of jerky in a good long time, canNOT leave the weights on that long, slit the steak while resting or cooking to check doneness, the weight was probably also used on the salmon because I had bites with lemon juice. The patty melt burgers seemed as though they were cooked to past well done 2 days ago, not stored/reheated in beef stock the last 2 times they heated them up and finally sent them out on the last reheat, and the onions and mushrooms were dripping with grease. Positive notes: baked potato was nicely done, seasoned fries were decent and about 2x the portion I was expecting. That all being said, we've been to Deacons several times and can appreciate training new/younger learning staff, the final nail though was the lack of professionalism when the cooks had to crank up their radion on some pop station so loud that we had to lift our voices a noticeable bit in the dining room, kids right? Welllllllll maybe not as there as someone who acted in an authorative role and was a good bit older than the younger crew we'd experienced thus far, began loudly checking on orders and seeing how everything was going and didn’t mention turning the music down at all..... I've worked in several kitchens and the rule was always, keep your music/shenanigans/goofing, OUT of the dining room. I know Deacons is a local business and it's great to try to support your local businesses, but that effort has to be earned and I think my family and I have found the point on the downhill skid where we'll be getting off. Read moreMy friend had eaten here before and really liked it. We arrived around 2 for a late lunch. There was only one other table of two when we arrived. The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated.
Our server was the incredibly sweet Alana. Thank goodness for her kindness and sincere demeanor as she had to deliver the unfortunate messages that the kitchen was out of the items we ordered not once - not twice- but three times! The fourth unfortunate outsge message was delivered by the manager herself, and thankfully, she was very nice and comped our meal and explained completely about what the issue was. The visit is so unreal, we knew it took both of them great courage to keep coming back to our table to deliver the unfortunate news over and over again. I ordered the protein bowl and was shocked that everything in it was ice cold... not cold like they left it too long before delivering, but ice cold: corn. Rice. Black beans. Steak. (?) I decided to bring it home to heat up and it was so yummy! The salad bar is one of the very best I've ever experienced!
The kitchen clearly needs help with prep, training and communication with the wait staff. All in all, I think it was just a very rough day for those who have to take care of the front of house and do the hard part of covering for the problems of the kitchen.
Alana is a true blessing to this establishment. She has excellent customer service skills, and frankly, it was only because of her genuine positive attitude that we stayed as long as we did. Read moreWe have been to this place about 4 times when we travel through Torrington. The first time was for breakfast and it was fairly good so we returned again the next few times through. The second visit wasn’t memorable either way. However the last two visits have made it to where we will not go back again. This last visit we got to the restaurant at 7:05 knowing they closed at 8pm but felt like nearly an hour before close was reasonable. As soon as we walked into the door a lady was rude to my daughter. Then I was walking past and she threw something on the counter and said to another employee “are you kidding me?”. She was clearly upset that we were trying to give them our business. We ordered quickly and then waited about 35-40 minutes to get our food. The server gave us our food at about 7:55pm and a couple of our orders were messed up. Additionally, in both of the last two visits there has been hair in two of five of our meals. We didn’t say anything the first time because we understand accidents happen and we didn’t want to be rude. However when it happened again this time we felt like we needed to say something. The server was nice but her response when I told her about the mixups on the orders and that there was hair in some of the food was “we do close at 8”. She did make new food and boxed it up for us to go but the experience wasn’t good. Also, they pass the credit card fee to the customer which I think is inappropriate.
