Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I wasn't going to leave a review of this restaurant but when I saw the high rating I felt I had to warn people. In my experience this place was NOT good. I eat a lot of Thai. Among the best are Green Papaya in Canton, King and I Thai in West Hartford, and Mae Kong in New Britain. Vientiane, the other Thai restaurant in Torrington is also very good. This place, in my experience, was just plain bad. The decor and atmosphere were very nice but the food was bland and tasted nothing like authentic Thai food. My spicy eggplant contained Italian eggplant! That's a ridiculous substitution. Asian eggplant is long and skinny with tender edible skin. Italian eggplant are the big fat ones that you make eggplant Parmigiano out of. All the ingredients and spices in all the dishes were just wrong. I don't know if they don't know how to cook or whether they're trying to make things for "American tastes". Of course there's a small possibility that they fixed the problems. We ate there shortly after they opened and before they even appeared on Google Maps. I actually told the waitress (and I never do this) that the food was awful and that they needed to find a new chef or they wouldn't be open very long. I thought I was doing...
Read moreThe food here is A+ very good, and I have only done takeout orders. And I hate to complain about something mostly trivial, but…. every takeout order comes with plastic forks/spoons, even if I don’t ask for them. It’s a nice thought to do that. The problem however is, i’m willing to bet that nobody, NOBODY, uses these plastic utensils. They are pathetic and worthless. I’m willing to bet too that no staff or management at the restaurant has ever eaten with them, because they would find it too frustrating to do so. The plastic forks/spoons provided are so cheap, the handles just collapse with the slightest amount of force. It’s pointless to even include them with the order because, nobody would use them. So I end up annoyed that I’m paying for something that’s worthless, just gets put in the trash automatically and I just use my regular flatware at...
Read moreI used to live in New Haven county where ethnic food is even more common than up here, but Taste of Thailand is my absolute favorite Thai restaurant in all of CT. The food tastes so fresh, flavorful, and delicious-- everything is always correctly cooked and has an appropriate amount of sauce so nothing is dry or soggy. Sometimes the service is a tiny bit slow when they are very busy, but all of the wait staff are very friendly and polite while also being very apologetic if the service is slow or they made a small mistake. Every single beverage, appetizer, entree, or dessert I have tried here has been amazing, and the decor of the restaurant is very pretty and welcoming. I highly recommend Taste of...
