10/07/24 - Perfect espresso martini. The Southwestern burger was flavorful with ripe avocado, and the veal marsala was what it should be. The chocolate cake hit the spot for the occasion.
8/24 - Delicious caprese salad with grilled salmon and balsamic reduction.
12/23 - Fresh mussels, house salad with salmon and the house burger hit the spot.
9/2023 - Loved the new special shrimp dumplings, stuffed mushrooms, eggplant florentine, and grilled lamb chops. Exceptional.
1/2023 - Packed on early Saturday eve. Two salmon dinners were overcooked as service was busy. Hot peppers on pork chops weren't replaced with sweet ones as ordered, but it was the best dish of three, tender with a well-cooked baked potato and creamed spinach. Two glasses of Federalist Cab. Fine choice. The retro Mudslide cocktail was great.
Late 9/22 - Mussels, Philly Steak and Cheese Egg Rolls, Meatball Parm grinder. Fine job by the owner cooking. The meat pizza we suggested has been added to the menu.
4th visit here we were happy to see The Mill House improving as it finds its bearings. New special cocktails were unique. Reordering the mussels app and salad with salmon add-on, both are still very good. The All American Hamburger with bacon, cheese, BBQ sauce & fried onions was dry but ordered well done. Service lagged after dishes were served. Relaxing environment. A meatball grinder to go with green peppers was well received.
8/22 dinner: fresh mussel starter with white wine garlic sauce and ciabatta bread, Mill House house salad with salmon add-on and 3 Mill's Tacos. (One chicken/two beef with peppers and onions)
Returning to The Mill House ten days after opening, the ribbon cutting event brought out good food. Keeping up with reviews, it's regrettable to see the negative ones. I agree with everyone who says this restaurant just opened and hope to see it improve, as well as understanding any customer leaving if their order is not delivered beyond a reasonable time.
That said, everything on 7/18 was well prepared except for the hamburger sliders - dry with no dressing. The fresh fruit platters had a beautiful presentation. The seedless watermelon was crispy and flavorful. The penne with chicken breast and broccoli was satisfying as was the garden salad. Three desserts, NY cheesecake, chocolate mousse and chocolate cake bites all had the right balance. Wine and coffee was also served with a celebratory cake made by a friend.
7/8/22 - The Mill House Kitchen & Bar opened yesterday, in Torrington on 367 Winsted Rd. Friends of the owner, we had to drop in to try the menu and wish him well since we missed the pre-opening event. We saw the restaurant while it was being built and got a tour of all the rooms and décor. Big and spacious with a rustic country interior. Now with white tablecloths on the tables it's ready to go.
The menu consists of steaks, fish, pasta, burgers and pizza. We ordered two apps: fried calamari and the garlic parmesan chicken wings. The calamari was fresh and crispy. Not at all greasy. The wings were tender and moist but could have baked a little longer to our liking. A thick white house bread comes with dinner. It reminds me of the bread I make in my bread machine.
No special cocktail menu yet but drinks from the bar were well made. Our two entrées were grilled salmon and asparagus and New York Prime Strip Steak medium-well with broccoli. They were out of roasted potatoes but the garlic mashed was suitable. The salmon was perfectly grilled and had a good portion size. The steak was cooked to order and seasoned.
We wanted to try the pizza so we ordered one to take home. We shared a slice to give feedback to our friend. Tasty. There is no pizza on the menu with meat other than buffalo chicken, so we had a custom made hamburger, sausage, pepperoni and bacon.
There is something on this menu for everyone. We saw a lot of burgers going by our booth. Service is attentive and friendly. Open 7 days. Specials of the day coming soon. A large private event room is also available behind two large...

OWNER of this ESTABLISHMENT please READ!!
Torrington needs this restaurant to succeed. I really hope the owners read these and act very fast. You've done an amazing job with the decor, white linen cloths & napkins. Very inviting. The waitresses are doing the best they can. They are trying but you can feel the frustration from them the moment you walk in and it's only a week or two open.
Some advice as a patron: Have someone meet people that come in/ a hostess to seat people, not the scattering/ frantic waitresses. It's the kitchen. It's THE kitchen- chef/s. Get NEW chefs even if it's costly. You will not have a business very soon no matter how inviting the decor is if the food is just mediocre & very slow, very disorganized, I give the kitchen a "D". Add salad with your entrees. I'd rather pay a few more dollars and feel I got something. Turn the music down. With the decor why aren't you following through with country western or folk music? It just seemed odd to have rustic, beautiful wood walls - barn like atmosphere with blaring hard rock. Have that in the bar , not the dining room. Felt like an Applebees.
If you Did these things above, you'd have a thriving business. Some people complain to complain, I get that, I was a small business owner. When there's a trend of low reviews for a new business, you're about to go under if you don't step up. The kitchen needs all new help; you will be closing, sadly if you don't act fast- word gets around and you've got these internet consistent low reviews. People want to eat out still, money is tight and they have sacrificed these days because it's tough on everyone with the recent economic status...but when they go out and spend hard money on mediocre food they've waited for ...for two hours watching waitresses frazzled, it's not a nice experience and most likely will never return.
With tweaking I could see eventually a lovely place with live music once a week , etc. It could be a star in Torrington that the locals would support...but you need to get it together. They come for food not just lovely barn like atmosphere with stressed out staff. OWNERS...
Read moreOk, so I have been driving by The Mill House Kitchen & Bar every day since they started work and think to myself we should try it. So today Wednesday July 27th. I told my wife we are going. So here was our experience. Exterior: Wild West appearance. Entrance: Beautiful woodwork Fish on plaques, stage coach/wagon wheels, antlers and saddles on the wall, giant barn doors to a room for private parties, overall great atmosphere. Polite greeting by hostess and seated promptly. Dinning: Waitress was polite. Bread and water was delivered right way. The pitcher of ice water was left at the table (big + for me). The bread was soft and warm with a great taste. The Appetizer was the steak and cheese egg roll, a refreshing change from the typical. With a great taste that was on point. My meal was the chicken parmesam. The pasta was cooked to perfection although water was left on the plate from pasta prep , the house made sauce was delicious and the chicken was very tasty and also cooked well. My wife had the The Mill (burger), cook was medium as requested but overall taste was ok, nothing spectacular. Her fries where good with a slight crunch on the outside. Some things that we didn't care for. The music doesn't fit the restaurant, felt like I belonged in a Tuscan Bistro or sitting on a street side patio in France. It is an older building and it appears they are having some bug issues, wasps inside around the windows and a few other flying insects as well. Maybe just because the building was closed up for so long. Towards the end of our meal I requested another bar drink. This was never recieved. We did sit for almost 15 minutes before the waitress came back and realized she forgot my drink. She then said it was ordered and followed that with an apology for not putting the order in. There where only three others on the dinning side so it wasn't busy. A bit pricey for what we ordered. Summary: with the plethora of other locally owned restaurants in the area that we have supported, this would most likely fall to the bottom of our list for now. Maybe someday we will go back after they get more established. Take this review for what it is. One persons view on this one visit. I am sure several hundred people have had better or worse...
