We will not be going back. This has been our go-to Hibachi, especially during COVID times. We have been highly recommending them. Prior to this visit, we previously dined on January 29th and it was great as it had been for all previous visits.
About two weeks ago, we had recommended this place through a friend who knew we had a Hibachi place we really liked. The feedback was terrible. We were told that they were asked to leave almost immediately after the main course even though they had a bottle of wine that was not yet finished and that they could only take dessert to go. We relayed that we had never had such an experience and that it must be some misunderstanding.
Fast forward to our 5:30pm reservation on Saturday and I get a call from the restaurant to please come early at 5pm or 5:15 at the latest. I told them that I had 2 other folks to coordinate with so I could not guarantee that. Needless to say, one of them was the person that asked us for the recommendation and relayed back the negative feedback. Note, this would be the first time dining for both of the guests we were bringing. The one person that relayed the poor feedback simply responded "is that normal"? Already off to a bad start.
I got there for just before 5:15. We wanted to give them a heads up about the bad experience of the prior guest and that the person who relayed the recommendation was coming, so that they could keep it in mind (we had noted to them that the party was for 6 adults and 4 children (oldest 10.5). Well, boy were we surprised that the response was very abrupt and a bit rude. We were informed that they would not be serving dessert today and that we should tell our guests. They blamed COVID and said restaurants are closing everywhere. Keep in mind every Hibachi table was running pretty much at full capacity and every time we had been there, it was similar. We dine out frequently and have not experienced any such response from a restaurant.
Our guests arrived to be seated by 5:30.
The service was clearly rushed. Chef quickly ran through his motions. Extremely short with the sake. Forgot the teriyaki sauce request on one of the kids' filet orders, put filet on the wrong diner's plate, etc. They were even rushing to clean, splattering water on plates while eating, going to take plates what diners weren't finished with. The other guest we brought remarked to me that he felt rushed and did not like it. Our check was promptly delivered at 6:25, 55 minutes in.
We sat a few minutes before leaving our cards, which were run through at 6:37.
We were so embarrassed having told everyone how good the place was and actually defending the restaurant when the bad feedback was relayed.
The only reason for two stars is the food remains quite good (flavor...
Read moreMy family and I have been long time customers of Sasa. We have always enjoyed the food. Definitely sitting at the hibachi table the food tastes better than when you sit at a regular table. The issue we have had with Sasa has not been the food but the service. It declines every time we visit! The waitress Amy has a bad attitude and it seems we the customer are an inconvenience to her.
Yesterday I went with my family and my brother in laws family. We were 13 people and they tried to only give us 1 hibachi table. After we told them we want two cooks they said ok but Amy’s attitude was horrible. She took our order and when I asked her how many pork gyozas she has written down she responded “how ever many you told me” when she came out with the pork gyozas (8) in total she didn’t even know where to put them. She didn’t know who ordered what, she was just throwing them down on the table.
When our cook came out Amy had a lot to say as she showed him the food order she had written down and he was making faces but of course we couldn’t understand what she was saying, wish I had a translator.
The food was good except for our chicken, as it was undercooked. When the cook finally asked how was everything we told him we can’t eat the chicken because it’s not cooked all the way. He then took it off our plates and cooked it a little more. The issue was that the chicken was cut into big cubes so it was taking longer to cook. But he fixed it and I gave him a tip.
The 18% gratuity was included in our bill, I didn’t realize it till after we paid. I would have definitely told them to reduce it to 15% had I realized it. Amy didn’t even deserve the 15% which was $76.”
When we finished eating I spoke to the manager and I told him all of the issues with Amy. I’ve had a previous issue with the same waitress when I visited Sasa with my family of 6. She does not represent the restaurant well at all! The manager didn’t do anything to fix the issue and I don’t know if I will be retuning to support this restaurant although we love the food.
Service is very important in the restaurant industry, it’s unfortunate they don’t take it...
Read moreAWFUL, terrible, pushy service at an empty place. I want to preface this by saying I don't usually go through the trouble of writing reviews, but it would be a shame for more people to waste their money on this place. I was taking my family out to dinner for my wife's birthday and wanted hibachi. Looking on Google we thought the reviews were good and it was nearby. We sat down for hibachi and were having a fine enough time, the food was ok, but from the beginning we noticed that the service started off pushy and the staff, in particular one waitress, was rude and would come up to us to hurrily take away plates while we were still eating, mind you it was 5 in the afternoon and we are one of the three parties in the whole place, as it was empty. As we were eating, my family and I are talking, and the waitress is in my face asking if we want anything else, she's in a fervor to get us out while we were there just under an hour and she can clearly see we are still eating and drinking. She asks not once, not twice, but three times if we wanted dessert in my face, I told her we were okay for now, please give us a minute, I'll ask my family, but then while she's hovering over me, she goes on and impatiently interrupts my family who are in the midst of conversation if they wanted dessert (again, in an empty restaurant, rushing us to leave). It was extremely rude to have someone hovering over you, trying to rush and be hostile, and really gives a bad name to the restaurant as a whole.
The cherry on top was that even with the HORRIBLE SERVICE, and the mediocre food and drink, they have the audacity to have a fixed 18% gratuity already included in the check.
Bottom line, there are countless hibachi/sushi places on Long Island. DO NOT COME HERE unless you'd like to drop $$$ for horrible service, rude waitresses, and...
