This review is based on my first visit and I will update it after the second visit. I've lived in the area for a few years but have still been using our standard take-out establishment that we were very happy with 6 or 7 miles away. We were looking for a nice dine-in restaurant and just realized this place was renovated so we gave it a try. We went for an early lunch on a Sunday. There was only 3 tables. The waiter had a very thick accent and hard to understand and because we're not familiar with their menu we struggled a bit, but that's ok. We were there for a light lunch and my wife and young son are traditionalists and ordered the basics. The portions were plentiful and tasty. I usually am a "menu studier" but it's a large menu and the waiter offered to take our order before I was ready and we agreed (AKA young son and hungry wife). So many of the reviews on here talk about the same old boring dishes (General Tso's, etc). I asked about a dish that I've enjoyed at another restaurants and reluctantly took the suggestion of the hard to understand waiter, not knowing what I was going to get....YES, it was very similar and YES I found my new favorite dish! If you're a spicy dish lover, you should try it. Although the name doesn't sound appetizing, this dish was awesome. Spicy Boiled Beef.... large portion of sliced beef in a very spicy chili oil & minced garlic sauce. Aside from the heat, it had so much flavor depth. It will be one of my new go-to dishes. After reading some other reviews, I learned that tea is typically served but we didn't get any (maybe because it was lunch?). We would've enjoyed it, but maybe next time we'll be more aware. The waiter could've been a little more friendlier but I will write it off as having a large language barrier. Overall, we were pleased and I will definitely go there again for both take-out and dine-in. It may even replace our...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible experience. This place needs to close down or at the very least be looked in to. I ordered steak and lobster E.P special, which was suppose to be 8oz's of steak and a 6oz lobster tail; I ordered the steak medium rare. They brought over the dish with a tiny lobster tail hidden in thick undercooked tempura batter (3oz tail) and about 2-3oz of overcooked thin steak. I eat at high end steakhouses every other week, paces steakhouse, vintage and always order the 8oz filet and I can promise everyone reading this, it was not even half of that portion. It was the equivalent of when you order steak teriyaki bento box as a lunch special and get the small portion of steak. They flat out ripped me off right to my face and didnt care. I was not happy at this point so I very nicely asked the waiter to please fix the dish and give me what I ordered, he apologized and said he would remake the order of steak (not the lobster). I then asked if they could make it to go and I paid the bill shortly after (stupidly) and even left a good tip because its not the waiters fault that the owner purposely rips off their customers. Once they brought the remade order over to my table wrapped to go, I left ASAP. When I got home I went to eat the food and noticed they gave me a tiny bit more steak similar to the earlier dish but...still not even close to 8oz of steak and it was tough and 50% pure fat! I threw it straight in the garbage! What this horrible place did was VERY bad business and theft and I warn everyone reading this review to never visit this place or theres a high chance you'll regret it as well. This place used to be good but its not the same anymore. It was 6pm on a Sunday and it was only us and another table...now I know why. I very rarely write reviews and I felt the need to warn everyone. Do yourself a BIG favor and eat somewhere else. You've been...
Read moreWe used to dine here very frequently up to about 8 years ago.The quality of the food and the size of the ordered food had diminished. None of our friends wanted to return. We decided to give the restaurant another try last night (Tuesday, only two other diners were eating). We were very hesitant, but the maitre d' was pleasant in greeting us, and we were delighted with the upscale look of the place. Our waiter, on the other hand, kept dashing away before we could complete our orders. We needed to request items three separate times. He was not rude; just uncaring and unfriendly. Now to the food. Excellent all around. We have had Asian food for more than 50 years, including in Hong Kong and large cities, and our expectations are high. Everything was superb--scallion pancakes, pad thai, shrimp in garlic sauce. All the sauces were fresh and delicious; and the wide fried wonton noodles at the start of the meal were great and not greasy. The portion sizes were large enough for a small doggy bag; the prices are about the same as Ancient Ginger, but with more creativity. We are dying to return soon and try other dishes. One other annoying issue was at the end of the meal. I was still eating, and the clean up staff presented us with the bill--a little training would resolve this problem as well as our experience with the waiter. If you have been putting off trying Eastern Pavilion for years, this is a good time to give them a...
