We visited Ichi after swearing them off several years ago. Based on this evenings experience, nothing has changed for the better at Ichi. First waitress tried to take our order was so english challenged, she ran off and left us for five minutes until another waitress could come to our table (only 3 tables seated, including ours). Sushi selection was relatively poor in variety, and not as fresh as other nearby sushi restaurants. Kids aren't sushi addicts like Mom and Dad, so they ordered beef and chicken teriyaki. Beef dish was undercooked and just drenched with a terrible teriyaki sauce. Chicken version took a similar shower in dressing but at least the meat didn't taste funny. For the price, both teriyaki dishes were very stingy on portions compared to nearby restaurants. Cost was another matter - for four people, our bill came to $153, then another $25 for the tip. We're twice a week sushi eaters, and quite frankly any other reviews that suggest Ichi is even in the same league as a Kotobuki just indicates a serious lack of experience. If you want to stay local to Stony Brook, Port Jeff, then you're much better off at Kimi in Port Jeff. If you can travel 20 minutes, then visit the much better, and surprisingly less expensive Kotobuki. Service at both restaurants is top notch, both have better sake selections, and the fish at Kotobuki is about the best you'll get outside of a trip into NYC. We'll retire Ichi as a dining option;...
Read moreMe and my husband had came here on a friday night and we were very upset with the service that we had and also the food. It was moderate but not that busy and I had ordered Red Curry Chicken and my husband had ordered the Sushi Dinner. My food had come with a soup and salid which I had asked the waiter multiple times where it was and after about 30 minutes prior of ordering it, it had finally come. The miso soup had no tofu and the salid was soggy. I didn't want to bother the waiter about the soup but when I asked for a new salid he said sorry I can't do anything about it. What kind of anwser is that? I guess I had to let it go. After about 1hr 15mins prior to ordering the food, it had finally come and my dinner was cold. My husband was mad and we were thinking about leaving. We had said something to the waiter and he took it back and 5 minutes later he came back and it was warm. The food was below average and their was hair in my white rice. I got up to go to the bathroom and I saw that the floor in back was very dirty and there was a odor smell. We asked for the manager and the waiter said she wasn't in. Me and my husband will not be returning. I do not recommend this place to anyone because of the food, waitering, and...
Read moreFOOD IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING JUST COMMENTING ON THIS ONE WAITRESS. Thank you and sorry for my low rating.
I have to say for the past few years I’ve definitely spent hundreds of dollars in this restaurant because of how good the food was. Was here for my birthdays, Valentine’s Day, reunion with friends, graduation dinner, etc. However I have since stopped going because the past few times I was there I was greeted with the worst attitude ever from a waitress. She has straight hair, very skinny and tiny, and I believe she started working here either right before or during Covid. Prior to her I’ve never had any issues with anyone but now I seriously thinks she needs to work on some professionalism especially that she’s working in this field. I see her treating other customers nicer than she does to me and whoever was going with me each time. I’ve been nothing but respectful and friendly, I’m close to all the senior workers and I’ve been praying to have them take my order and my tips instead of her. I hope someone would be able to bring this to her attention so she can learn better, it’s a SHAME that she’s working here and treating people like this....
