This is a great Deli that is full of great people that work hard to produce a lot of exciting offerings. It doesn't seem to get as much business as it deserves, so I'll just leave customer feedback for the owners. Word of mouth is a strong form of advertising, so it is really important that you wow your customers!
There are a few improvements they could make:
The potatoes on their hungry man breakfast heros are too starchy and a little tough, and don't cohesively fit with the rest of the sandwich. Cutting them thinner and really frying them to a crispy state would make for a better sandwich. Alternatively shredded-style home fries with onion would also work great. I think either change will really make for a larger breakfast crowd. Goya adobo is a secret weapon in really tasty home fries.
The choice of pasta for their mac and cheese should be reconsidered. Reheating the shells is quite difficult, because they adhere to each other and form super-chunks of pasta that are quite unpleasant to eat. It also looks like a yellow-pasta with a cheddar look, but it tastes more white. It's deceptive to the taste buds, but still tasty. I'd prefer something more yellow with cavatappi, maybe with a baked finish (not a topping per-say, but a bit of extra cheese). That could just be me though.
The Caesar salad dressing was delicious, but the only other thing included was the lettuce besides the chicken (extra). Lettuce and dressing doesn't make a salad. Croutons are a bare minimum on a Caesar for the textural addition. Parmesan also adds a delicious saltiness that I think would have really elevated it to one of the best in the county.
The baked treats don't taste like they are made from a box and I think that's actually a bad thing. The crumb cake for example is like 50% sugar topping, but tastes quite a lot inferior to a yellow box cake sifted with vanilla pudding mix. The shortcuts save time and produce a tastier product with probably a longer shelf-life. A baker can't compete with the chemistry and science of a box product. Even a lot of professional bakeries secretly use them.
The internet is a great resource for ideas!
I came to this deli first as a 12-year-old kid, and I'd really like for it to stay solvent and be around for others...
Read morePumpernickels Deli is an absolute gemâa small, cute spot thatâs impressively clean with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff, mostly younger folks, are delightful, efficient, and incredibly organized. Theyâre also so sweet when answering questions, making the experience feel personal and inviting.
On this visit, I ordered a simple bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, and it was perfect. Sometimes itâs the basics that say the most, and Pumpernickels delivered. Iâm also seriously considering trying their catering next because everything I saw looked so fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared.
This place easily outshines Bagel Express down the street. If youâre in the area, I highly recommend stopping byâyou wonât be...
Read moreLady at the register was high strung and distracted. Itâs understandable to be having a bad day, but she tried to overcharge me twice, once by adding on a 7.99 charge for a sandwich I clearly did not order, and another time by trying to up charge me for a bag of chips that clearly read 99c on the label to a $3 âcustom itemâ. I was able to see all of this on the tap to pay terminal. I had to correct her twice, despite the fact that she had just called out my exact order and called me to the register just seconds prior. Iâd like to give her the benefit of the doubt as it truly may have been an honest mistake, but itâs absolutely unacceptable to disrespect your customers when youâre...
