My first time going there was Saturday, November 18 I went to try the Mac and Greens because I was thinking of getting catering for thanksgiving being stuck in hotel with my 4 yr old my 2 yr old and my new born baby from Minnesota. when I first went in there I was not greeted at all so that thur me off from jump. there were people in line so I got in line. I guess it’s counter service I walked up to the line. The young girl at the counter did not tell me how everything works. She didn’t tell me anything then I see an older man so I spoke to him about possibly catering for thanksgiving because they had a huge menu at counter, he said hold on, and another man came out. He said come back tomorrow when my wife is working and she will be able to help you. Both gentlemen were very nice and respectful. So I ordered my small greens and small Mac to go. $13 for 2 small sides was over the top I thought for the small sides I went to car to try the greens where good but not the best iv had, I try the macaroni and it was just macaroni with cheese. There was no roux no sauce and there was barely any flavor. Definitely not the best but it would do for last min. So I went the next day to meet the wife she was nice. I told her my situation how we came here for work for Minnesota. We are stuck in a hotel and she showed me the size pan she could do she typically caters for 15 people so I thought it was nice she would’ve been able to accommodate me , she told me to email her everything and she would get it together. I emailed her that same night in two days went by it was now Tuesday two days before Thanksgiving. I called on Tuesday and I said hey just checking in I haven’t heard anything wondering if you’re going to be able to accommodate us if not, please let me know so I can make other arrangements. I understand That this was last minute she said I’m going to send you an invoice, the whole next day Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving. I waited, and nothing came through. I was so excited to order the food from a small black business because I love supporting black businesses, but then not to receive an email or call I thought was very unprofessional, and very rude. Specially, knowing the fact that I was stuck in a hotel for Thanksgiving if she knew she couldn’t accommodate us. I wish she wouldn’t even had said that. Rude and really unprofessional Wednesday night I ended up going to ShopRite a grocery store in Long Island and I made my own menu to cook my own food on two burners in a grill inside the resident inn Marriott in Long Island. I made a last-minute menu, Grilled turkey legs, turkey thighs, brown sugar orange ham steak, black-eyed peas, collar, greens, seafood, stuffed mushrooms. Shrimp cocktail and cheese and crackers for appetizers. Homemade pecan pie from my mom and Kool-Aid pie. Me and my kids made. Overall, my family had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner because of me hate that I had to put in so much work to cook out of the comforts of my home. Also, being stuck in a hotel with three kids. Sad I didn’t get to get treated for Thanksgiving being out of town but I guess not. Everybody can’t be Minnesota nice. Pics of the dinner that I cooked myself I used to be a personal chef. I did all this on two burners in a grill and a hotel and I also shared my dinner with two other people. They both had seconds and complemented me multiple times on how delicious everything was. She could’ve at least sent an email told me she was too busy to accommodate me or she could’ve sent an apology email and offered a free dinner for the inconvenience. Overall, she needs an assistant or she needs to get better track of her catering and also her communication skills and she needs to learn how to make a roux for proper macaroni and cheese. I wish her the best with her small black business and I hope she can figure some things out to make it...
Read moreFirst I’ll start with the food. it was absolutely on point. The food was seasoned good, looked appetizing, and I enjoyed every bite that I took. Next, I’ll address the prices. The food is on the expensive side. The first few visits I had the turkey wings which were cooked very well and fell completely off the bone. They were amazing. The last visit two days ago is what prompted me to leave this disturbing review. I ordered the ribs with collards and Mac and cheese. Unfortunately they only serve you ONE rib with the order which cost me a total of $32.58. This is where the problem begins… why are they serving ONE rib with the order but charging over $30 for the meal?? Coincidentally a gentleman had ordered the same meal minutes before I did and returned with his plate to complain when he discovered the ONE rib in his order. As he protested to the server, the server obliged him and added another rib to his plate. Once my order was complete I asked the same server for the same courtesy. He began to try and SHAME me. I was in complete disbelief at his behavior. I watched as he rang up the additional rib and then credited it out and said to the man, “ I won’t be able to do this for you again” I expected the same courtesy and the same statement about the future orders but instead he became angry and said “I should be ashamed of myself” why? Because I spoke up for myself? You clearly made an exception for the man when he complained right in front of me but somehow I’m treated differently? Why, because the establishment doesn’t point out that the order only comes with ONE rib for $32.58 and that he angrily shouted to me that “we’re gonna take this off the menu” apparently people are complaining about the inflated price and small portion. I was so disgusted by this servers attitude and audacity to try and shame me, their customer, who’s spending my hard earned money with them, that I needed to post my mixed review. I believe the server may be part of the ownership but I’m not sure. Either way, that’s not the way to handle your paying customers. I understand that certain food cost more to produce to the masses and especially when it comes to southern cuisine. Unfortunately some of these establishments sometime take advantage of the paying public by inflating the cost of the food. We as the paying public will gladly pay the surcharge when we are getting the proper value for our dollar. We need to begin to call out those establishments who take advantage of us. If you go to a Chinese or Jamaican restaurant and want shrimp or ox tails, it’ll cost more than the Chicken dinner but they’ll provide you with an adequate amount for the price point. The bottom line is Lola’s needs to tighten up or it’ll just be a distant memory of a restaurant that once was. Train your staff on proper customer service when the paying public is spending their hard earned money or they’ll find another delicious...
Read moreI am 6 months pregnant and I have been dying for some GOOD food. That food that makes you dance in your seat and this did it!
I had to get 2 meals because it all looked so good I couldn’t choose and I’m so happy I did. I’ve been to a lot of “soul food” spots and they all just disappointed me and was a waste of money. Lola’s southern cuisine reminds me of my moms food it is so delicious. EVERYTHING has flavor and I’m not talking about just saltiness I mean FLAVOR! This sweet and spicy salmon is indescribably good ! The sweet potatoes?!!! Omg they are perfect they are loaded with overwhelming amount of sugar and butter flavored, they are so tender and juicy. The potatoes are so smooth and you can taste the butter in them. The greenssssss! Omg the greens are tender but not mushy they are cooked to perfection! The Mac and cheese ! It has a unique flavor in it I can’t put my finger on but it is dam good! The bbq chicken is tender and the sauceeee! Omg I wish I didn’t move out of state! But I am so glad we stayed in the hotel next door or I might not have tried this place. I’ll definitely be getting some plates to go home with!
Keep up the good work ! This is real...
