So I've never been shy that the lack of good tex mex on Long Island is lacking. (Don't be upset you cant find a decent Bagel in southeast Texas to save your life!) Please forgive the mess of my plate as it wasn't till I was a few bites in that I realized holy cow! I gotta get a picture of this plate of Amazing-ness! First of all the place is small but it is beyond adorable! They had such a cute decor, even my daughter's highchair was decorated. Now, normally I dont try cheese enchiladas on a first time in a tex mex place because usually I am so disappointed. But I thought what the hey, I've been craving them for a while now. I AM SO GLAD I DID! They are without a doubt the best ones I've had on Long Island, quite possibly even my top 3, (and that's including from Texas too!) It is a little spicy, but nothing a little water cant fix. Yall.... I seriously ate all my enchiladas without saying a single word. I was in enchilada heaven. Even my husband realized that I was in a state that required good ole fashioned just revel in the sweet bliss that is this food on my plate and in my mouth. So if you remember how I said my daughter's highchair? So how is one able to have complete silence when enjoying this wonderful food when you have a typical toddler, (who by the way new favorite thing is saying me, me, me and wanting to try all the new food)? Well at the Cactus Cafe I suggest the tacos. Because my almost 17 month old was in the same boat as me. Which as a Texan mama, made my heart swell that she loves a good Taco. My husband also loved his food, he had Chorizo Burrito. Which in typical Tex Mex fashion could have been mistaken for a small baby for the size of it, and not greasy at all. So once we were all done and giving thanks to the food gods, I finally spoke. And I asked my husband, So how far are we from the New House? (We just moved) "about 15 mins- 20 mins max" My husband then looked at me and said We are coming back aren't we? And with a big smile on my face I...
Read moreAmazing food!!!!! Would recommend to everyone! I had the shrimp tacos and my family had a garden burrito and a shrimp burrito (they were out of regular fish or else the shrimp orders would have been standard fish, but I totally understand - it happens and no big deal and we came after the dinner rush. It was no big deal because they have a lot of options!!) They definitely do not skimp on portion size, and I really appreciated them by default providing two tortillas per taco for overflow. So anyway... we all enjoyed our food tremendously!
They take solid precautions during COVID which I like.
It was not too busy when we first arrived and they were still as efficient and timely to us as if it was busy. They were genuinely interested and happy to help us. We exchanged jokes... bottom line was that they were super welcoming and attentive.
The person working the counter also offered to come to the table outside we wanted to sit at and wipe it down for us, and grabbed an extra chair we needed for us without us asking.
They seriously go the extra mile and tonight was a pleasant surprise since we hadn’t been there before. It’s a little small gem.
Their attention to detail is great. You can tell a lot of effort had been put in to decorating and maintaining the restaurant, along with them hiring great folks who care enough and know the importance of going the extra mile.
Honestly I can’t say enough good things about this place and I will absolutely be back.
Sorry for this long winded and out of order review.
The TLDR version is Our family really enjoyed it here and can’t wait to come back. I can see this being a frequented spot for us.
Thank...
Read moreThis place was the go to place when me & my friends went out, but i went there a few nights ago and was very unhappy about the meal size we got a few things and portions were way smaller and barely filled me & my friend who were used to the size it was a few weeks ago, none the less we just only ordered burriros to find out that they were literally ⅓ of the size for the same menu price,i usually have trouble holding & biting the burrito but what i got fit in my hands & easily fit into my mouth that had a small layer or beans akin to taco bells shame of a bean cheese burrito, & my friend got pork with less meat than you'd get in a pizza and was even more unhappy about his meal ; it'll be a while before me my buds and there & our friends will go back to this pace, what a shame i really liked this place until this experience, someone posted a picture of what their burritos used to look like now imagine ït 2 thirds less in size that's what me & my buds got, I'm not sure if bidenomics that got to this place or if it was for another reason id like even less, a month or 3 back my friend saw and heard the cashier who's there every time we went their since whisper to the cheff that we didnt tip before we got our take out meals (as far as i know your not supposed to tip on take out) we ended up waiting extra long for our meals simple meals people behind us in line had got their meals quicker. We both dont have much funds which is why we liked coming here but if we're getting spited because of a lacking tip on our end we will never come back here with our friends or...
