I went to Miller's to watch the Jets game and I had low expectations when I walked in. I was expecting another dime-a-dozen chain restaurant, and another underwhelming eatery experience, but I was pleasantly surprised as they exceeded my expectations. I had a BBQ bacon burger cooked medium well with cilantro lime rice instead of fried, and a tall Miller tap beer. I can tell when a meal is just slapped together and when it is cooked with pride. With every bite the only word that came to mind was "perfect". The rice was "perfect". The burger was cooked to perfection. The bacon in the burger was cooked to perfection. Whoever the head chef in that kitchen was does an outstanding job. My beer was cold and fresh and delicious. Miller makes the best domestic beers, hands down. My server was outstanding. A petite blonde woman, I cannot recall her name, but I recall her service. She did not smile much or go out of her way to seem cheerful, but none of that matters to me, because actions speak louder than words, or smiles. She took 2 orders with apps, substitutions, etc., without writing one thing down, and got it all right. She checked with us several times to make sure everything was to our liking. She never kept us waiting, and if she had to, she explained why, like when she was waiting for the foam to dissipate from my beer. The place was well staffed with waiters and cooks, so you never had to worry about them rushing and doing a poor job on your meal, or having to wait for service. The place was roomy, high ceilings, well lit, clean, and had a simple rustic elegance with alot of amber colored wood which gives it a warm feel. On display were many bottles of liquor, and many taps for all of the different draft beers on they carry. The crowd was mature and calm and you could just feel that everyone was satisfied. I was thoroughly pleased, and I can be hard to please when it comes to eating out. Thinking about it makes me want to go back there right now and have the same meal. It felt like a high quality experience without the high price tag. It makes me wonder why so few establishments can find this formula for success but I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family and I have been going to Millers for many years and over the last year or so we have experienced a decline in food and service quality at your restaurants. Our last visit was to your Lake grove, NY location and we were very disappointed with our visit. We always order the mountain melt zingers and over the last few months we noticed that the chicken strips have been getting smaller and overall less number of pieces, however the last visit was the worst. The strips were very small and thin and we were only served four of them, the fries had very little cheese melted on them and the dipping sauces were clearly watered down. The whole appetizer was about 95% dry fries and barely any chicken. My son and I also ordered burgers which are always great, however the buns they came with are not the same as we have had in the past, clearly lower quality and no seeds as in the past. Furthermore the ketchup and other condiments have been removed from the table and the one thing I can not stand is to ask for more and have to wait more than ten minutes for the server to bring more small cups of ketchup only to have to ask someone else to bring it because the server forgot to bring it all the while having to stare at my food and wait because there is no ketchup. I understand that prices are up everywhere and is hitting the food industry, but the costs are being passed on to your patrons and we are being charged more and receiving less in both food and service. I live on Long Island and frequent your Lake Grove, Commack and Deer Park locations and they are all the same. More expensive every time I go and we all get less. Sadly our most recent visit on 3/29/24 will be our last as there are many more restaurants we can patronize and it is heartbreaking to do so as we have been loyal Miller's customers for many years and have always enjoyed your restaurant. If you must raise prices which I fully understand due to inflation you must make sure you give your customers what they are paying for and even go the extra mile to make sure they return...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI liked this place, it was not what I was expecting which in this case is a good thing.
Miller's is located where the old Houlihan's used to be before it closed and burned down, just south of the Smith Haven Mall. I've been to "alehouses" before with pretty mixed results so I was a little apprehensive, but new restaurants don't open all that often around here so I wanted to check it out for myself.
My wife and I arrived and we were seated right away, it was about 1:30PM on a Saturday so it was close to full but we got right in. The restaurant has a very open layout and is divided into two large sections each with a central bar, and there is also outside seating behind the back bar. One thing we couldn't help but notice was the large number of TVs on the walls. There were 17 (we counted) flat screen TVs in our section alone and we estimated about 60 in the whole restaurant. They all had sports on (baseball, soccer, NASCAR, football, the works). I'm not much of a sports fan so this wasn't really a distraction, more of a spectacle to see it all at once. If you have a die hard sports fan in your party, they may be very distracted at Miller's. We also noticed that many of the other tables were families with young children, so the restaurant appeared to very child friendly.
We ordered the Chicken Nachos as an appetizer. I had debated ordering this as an entree, but it certainly would have been big enough. In fact, this was quite literally the largest pile of Nachos I've ever seen. It could easily feed 4 people. Seriously, gigantic. My wife had the Zinger Tacos and I had the Grilled Salmon sandwich, both of which were very good but after the huge amount of Nachos, we didn't finish our lunches. I have to say, I ordered the Salmon sandwich because it is something I hadn't seen on a menu before and it tasted great, but in the end I decided that on a Kaiser roll is not the best way to enjoy Salmon. If you want a fish sandwich, try the Cod or Mahi-Mahi, save the Salmon as a...
