Nonna's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

Ok so I wrote a review about 7 yrs ago! Tonight I ordered take out for the first time in a long time from here! Was not happy at all! I usually get only pizza here. But we order bake manicotti! It was terrible! It was like I was eating soup! The ricotta was cold and it did not have any substance to it at all! Also the ricotta was cold in some spot inside! I picked it up on time so that wasn't the reason! The shells were soft and had not flavor at all! Very disappointed! My husband got spaghetti he said it was ok! And to top it off the menu on the their website stated the you could choose between Italian bread or garlic sticks. When I was ordering I said to the girl that I will take the Italian bread and she said there will be a .50 cents charge for the bread! And I said well that isn't stated on the menu, so I got the Garlic sticks! When I got to the store to pick it up. I said to the girls at the counter, how come it doesn't say there is a charge for the Italian bread and she said! The menu online is the same in the store! And it says there is a charge for the bread! And I took a screen shot of the menu online and showed her this and I thought she would say "Im sorry let me get you the bread"! And she said nothing but Happy New Year and we will make sure we change the menu online! Oh Well I guess the customer isn't always right! And when I got home the Garlic sticks were not even sticks! Just a hunk of cold pizza dough with Garlic on it! It wasn't even a stick or sticks like it is stated! I know I'm being picky and long winded but I don't think I was treated right! I will not order anything here but pizza and I may not even do that anymore!! Not a...

I wish they had half stars... Because a 5 in my head is perfect... And very few of us ever attain perfection.

So this should be 4.5

We came in totally by random chance - another place we usually go to was closed - because it was late-ish and it was a Tuesday.

Top notch pizza. Excellent. We got 4 different kinds of counter slices. They were all fabulous.

My older daughter loves The Scarlet Witch aka Wanda (a Marvel character from comics and now movies) When we were paying... She noticed that there was this little Wanda character rubber banded onto the side of their cup of pens that they keep next to the cash register.

The young woman who was ringing us up... heard us talking about it... And then she asks my daughter: "do you want it?... My sister gave it to me and I don't even know who that is."

I think she almost fell on the floor because she was so shocked by the offer.

Too long of a story short... She was head over heels.

We were incredibly grateful... And it deserves mention that coming in late on a slow night and getting service like that (from everyone) is not a common occurrence in my experience.

I know why her sister gave it to her... Well, it's more of a guess... Because she seemed to love all things red.

Last thought Don't make anything out of three stars for atmosphere okay?

We're talking about a pizza place... not a white tablecloth fine dining establishment where you would go for some fancy dinner...

You go for the food.

That said the people who work there create the atmosphere... And if it was based on that alone It would be...

I had the occasion to meet Jack (the owner of Nonna's) to help him on a special project that he has been working on. After spending some time in his simple yet spectacular pizzeria, I was taken back in time to where the local pizzeria was family owned and operated and was often the pride of the community.

After spending some time with Jack it dawned on me, he's an everyday hero. Someone with enormous talent but has such modesty that if you're not looking, you may not see it, with the exception of his cooking!

If your looking for fantastic pizza look no further, the regular slice (the standard for judgement) is good enough to compete with the top NYC slices... But the regular slice is not enough these days, so there is an amazing array of specialty slices (which I sampled)... drop the mike delicious!

I don't live in the area, but next time I'm in town, I will be making a special trip, and I will be ordering the Margherita Pizza!

If you find yourself in the Patchogue area I highly recommend giving this place a try, not only will you get an incredible meal, you will be supporting a great guy, who's running a family business, happily serving a community that he loves and cares for. Doing God's work...
