Unprofessional and aggressive.
I ordered from PJ Sushi on GrubHub tonight; shortly afterward I was contacted by someone from the restaurant who asked me to cancel my GrubHub order and use one of their own drivers because they did not want to wait for the GrubHub driver to arrive at 9:30 (the restaurant closes at 9:00).
The issue though was that I was using a promo code and getting my food discounted through GrubHub, so I said I was comfortable with waiting for the delivery driver. PJ Sushi told me that GrubHub takes too long to arrive and that they didn't want to wait past closing. As someone who has been in the restaurant industry and as someone who has worked for GrubHub, it is crazy to set your closing hour as the same time as your last time to order.
I suggested that in the future the restaurant change its latest order time on GrubHub to 8:30 or so, so that no one is waiting on a driver past closing. The person I spoke with became very combative and defensive; I was told that the owner was "Asian" and therefore "didn't understand how UberEats or GrubHub works;" and he was angry that I would not cancel my order and told me I "should have read the restaurant's hours."
Rule of thumb: If you want to go home at closing, don't set up yourself up in GrubHub/UberEats/whatever delivery service to accept last minute orders that will keep you waiting on delivery drivers. And, especially you shouldn't call customers and ask them to incur a cancellation fee from that delivery service because you don't...
Read moreOrdered enough food for 2 meals, the leftovers took this place from a 3 star down to a 2 star.
I was drawn in with fair prices on basic rolls. The rolls don't necessarily taste bad, but they could be better. The employee that handed my take out order was very friendly. But if that is the best the store can offer, it would be in my best interest to never bother ordering from here again. There are too many sushi locations that offer more and better tasting rolls.
My issue is the size. They are extremely tiny pieces of sushi. They don't even try to hide how little fish and other fillings you get with a lot of rice. They skimped on the rice too! I mentioned ordering enough food for two meals. I ate half of 5 rolls, so around 2 and a half rolls. I wasn't really full. I was content but not stuffed like similar sushi places near us. Ah, and the rice on the sushi was hard by the next day. I dunno what they are doing with the rice but this hasn't really been an issue at other locations where I've had leftovers. I was kind of looking forward to finishing those tiny pieces and then I am greeted to an unpleasant, hard exterior.
A 2 star rating is a no-brainer for me. I'm glad the taste wasn't bad and I am definitely happy the employees are in excellent spirits. I just can't justify going back,...
Read moreI have been wanting to order from this place forever, but my coworkers always choose Mt Sinai Sushi instead. Now I see why.
Here's what I ordered: Takoyaki Naruto Roll Combo (spicy crab, spicy salmon, spicy tuna)
The Takoyaki was good enough. I will leave it at that.
I've been eating Naruto Rolls for 21 years. This was my least favorite ever. How they pureed the fish was not palatable, and the flavor was disappointing.
The combo... maybe the description on Door Dash was off, or maybe it's my fault, and I read it wrong. Instead of receiving 3 sushi rolls, I received 3 ice cream cone things. Impossible to dip in the soy sauce; it had to be poured into the cones. In addition, it contained the same quality pureed fish.
Hands down, I've never eaten sushi that felt so weird in my mouth. This was ridiculously below standard.
In addition, I asked for extra wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce. Use your judgement of my picture to see if they obliged. In my opinion, they gave less than what should have been provided for 4 rolls.
I will stick with Hoshi Sushi in Stony Brook. They have never let me down in 21 years.
Edit: The more I think about this order, I should demand a refund for at least the Naruto Roll. It literally seems like I was...
