Just amazing Tonight we went to what is becoming my most favorite sushi place locally to my house. In farmingville there is a sushi restaurant called Sam sushi that's been talked about on this page more and more often.
First let me start off by saying Amanda the owner is the sweetest woman you will ever meet in your entire life. If I'm correct on the relationship she is married to Sam. She greets each and every person personally and many by name.
I was introduced to Sam sushi by my friend Joe Alessi . I figure if he recommends the sushi there it has to be good. He was right it is top quality.
On to the food. We started with edamame. I forgot to take a picture but I'm sure you all understand what edamame is. If you don't it is soybeans still in their pod steamed with salt. They give you a generous portion.
We ordered shumai which is steam dumpling with we request spicy mayo. I didn't eat those because I typically don't like shrimp but my family thought they were phenomenal. This is a personal decision by me not because anything is wrong with them.
My wife ordered chicken and vegetable tempura. It typically comes with chicken tarot pumpkin sweet potato and broccoli. She asked them to sub out the tarot and the pumpkin for more sweet potato and broccoli and they happily obliged.
My son ordered chicken katsu which is basically a fried chicken cutlet in panko bread crumbs. He really enjoys it. The portion is huge here and we took half of it home.
My daughter ordered juicy dumplings which come out in the steam pot smoking hot. After letting them cool she said the flavor was out of this world. I regret I did not try them.
I ordered a sushi dish called tekedon. It is sashimi tuna served on a bed of ice with rice on the side. The tuna is amazing quality and tastes so fresh. I was so happy with this choice tonight.
In honor of my friend Joe I ordered a sayonara. A sayonara is a drink that he or his friend created. It was 50% Tito's and 50% plum wine. It is a light refreshing drink and very sweet.
I can't say enough about this place and the owner. They are open for dine-in and take reservations on Friday and Saturday night. We didn't make reservations and they were able to get us in but many tables were marked reserved. There was one couple that was told 20 to 30 minutes for a table.
I know they offer takeout and we have done that many times over covid. I am so happy that we have this place local to me and will be back many times. Don't mind the pictures of me my son didn't think I would post them so of...
Read moreWalking in I did not expect such friendly service. I was treated with a smile and was seated quickly. I usually sitat the bar when I do my reviews. I like to see the chief in action. The chief welcomed me with a smile and after a few minutes, Started me off with a complimentary grilled tuna spicy salad. Usually when given a “ complimentary” appitizer I get worried. As in “is the fish old?” And are you trying to get rid of it. He assured me the fish was fresh and to my delight it was. You can tell by the texture along with the taste and smell.the chief was clean, wearing gloves and constantly cleaning his station he was knowledgeable when I was asking questions about the sushi. My main appitizer was there special. The posideon roll. More American then usual for my taste. But I had to give it a try. Shrimp tempura inside with avacado. And assorted fish and sauce on top. Now the sauce usually covers up the taste of the fish which is why I usually steer away from them. But it was a special. And my first time here. I can honestly say this is the first time I have had an “ American style “ roll that was not drenched in sauce. It was perfectly balanced and did not over take the fish flavor. Amazing, flavorful and delightful. I would order this again. My main course was the Sams sushi. Assorted sushi with 1 special roll. I picked the naurto roll as it is the only one on there special that’s not covered in sauce. There sushi was fresh and honestly was one of the freshest I have had in a while. Their rice was not overly vinigary and was not hard. Their rice was sublime. And lastly. There sushi tasted fresh. Nothing tasted old. I got some Ikura to see if there freshness was really up to par. And it was. I will be coming back not just for the amazing food. But the amazing service I received. Thank you staff and chief of sams sushi bistro.
Update. It has been a few months and I must say. The quality and service is still as wonderful as ever. I highly recommend them for any new sushi adventurous people or for those who want to try...
Read moreThanks for joining me for another review! So I have ate at Sam's a few times not and I will say this: The food is good.....just.... good. This is not a bad thing but its far from GREAT food and I will explain why. Lets begin! When ordering rolls they give you very little wasabi. Its also the light and fluffy smooth wasabi with zero bite. Places do this to cut food cost and Sam's does the same thing. My attached pic is the amount you get with 3 rolls. When you order extra wasabi they will charge you $1. Once again I would be OK with this is it was a good quality wasabi, but its not. Also in there philly roll you will get a sliver of fish. Like a small sliver (see my attached pic). This to me is a big no no. Spicy tuna lacks spice and fish quality of most of there rolls are good and I would say average for a place to stay in business. The best thing I have ordered what the upgraded fried rice in there bento box. Thats not saying much....but good rice is hard to find so its worth noting. They have good reviews and most people will love this place...Im not most people. Thanks for the support and see you on the...
