Went out with my husband, in-laws, and their friends last night to this fabulous eatery (our first time there). It started off by entering the building and was immediately greeted by the hostess who wore a great smile, and had such a warm and friendly disposition. (Green flag #1). We had 7:30 reservations, but we were there by 7. So, we were offered to sit at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. (They were very busy).
While at the bar, We were greeted with warm and friendly smiles by those behind the bar. (Green flag #2).
Even though they were busy, our bartender Matt was very attentive and super friendly. My husband is a bit of a whiskey connoisseur, and Matt was super knowledgeable about the whisky and scotch this establishment had to offer. My husband was very impressed at the whisky and scotch that they had available.
I on the other hand had a delicious chocolate martini. I’ve had other chocolate martinis before, but this one took the cake! It was so delish, it literally tasted like a chocolate milkshake. Matt grabbed the already chilled martini glass, rimmed the inside with chocolate syrup, and made the drink right in front of us. He was so precise and filled my glass to the rim! I was very impressed.
As the others from the party arrived, the hostess told us our table was ready. At exactly 7:30. Not a min later. And they were busy. So it was surprising and refreshing that the table was ready on time. (Green flag #3).
We were seated, and our waitress (Jessica) came immediately to our table (remember, they were super busy on a Friday night) told us what their specials were, and asked for our drink orders. They came out promptly and were delivered correctly. (There were 6 of us at the table mind you.)
Our party was busy having conversation and it took us a while to decide what we wanted to have for dinner. Our waitress Jessica told us to take our time. She was never hurried or showing any kind of annoyance towards us at all. A rare commodity these days. (Green flag #4).
When we finally decided on our entrees, one in our party had a difficulty deciding between 2 of the dishes. Our waitress Jessica had given her opinion on what she would choose, so our friend decided to go with her choice. It was the sword fish. Boy, was she super glad that she sided with Jessica. This guest was visiting from Florida, and said it was literally the best sword fish she ever had! Now that’s a tall order to fill, and My cousins definitely delivered.
I ordered the NY strip (medium) with their roasted Brussels. The steak was seasoned just enough where the beef flavor was still able to come through, and was cooked to perfection. The Brussels were so tasty. Seasoned perfectly and not over roasted, as I’ve had in other establishments.
My husband ordered their smothered pork chop. I had a bite, and I will tell you, pork is easily over cooked and can be dried out. Not this pork chop. It was so tender and juicy. And it paired well with the warm apple compote they had over it. So delish!
My mother in law couldn’t stop talking about how great her rack of lamb was.
And let’s not forget about the generous portion sizes My Cousins offers. I was shocked! My steak was a hefty 16oz. It was so good, that I finished the entire thing. I walked away full and with a smile.
My mother-in-law was able to take her rack of lamb home, and will probably get another meal for herself and my father- in-law, out of it. That’s no joke.
The atmosphere was cozy, but reminded me of being in an upscale NYC restaurant at the same time. Updated and chic. Warm and inviting.
The owner Dave, was walking around from table to table making sure everyone was satisfied with their care. That’s something I really appreciated.
All in all, when you walk into my cousins, You’re treated like family. That’s something rare these days. I highly recommend giving them a try. We will be back for sure, and the hour drive will definitely...
Read moreLet me start by saying that after moving to Mahopac, almost 10 years ago, I can finally say I found a restaurant that is my absolute favorite, not only in Mahopac, but possibly ever! The food was outstanding, from the beginning with the delicious appetizers to the wonderful desert at the end. The owner/host was the most personable and helpful that I’ve ever come across. Our waitress, Mary, who has only been a waitress for two years, seemed like she’s been doing it for 20 years.
For appetizers, we had thick cut bacon, and meatballs, I am very picky when it comes to meatballs in the restaurant, but these were outstanding! My wife had a special for her main course, which was a veal osso bucco and I had a surf and turf . Everything melted in our mouths. Deserts were pretty common things, but some of the best common things I ever tasted. I wanna thank My Cousin’s for a wonderful experience, for treating us the way they did, and for letting me find, finally, my favorite restaurant in my town. I recommend this to everyone, no matter what type of cuisine you desire, you will find one of your favorites at this establishment. And I also heard that the brunch is the best in the area, can’t wait to come back for that. So if you’re reading this, when you’re done, put your phone down and don’t walk, but run to...
Read moreMy first experience, last night, was a totally shocking and welcomed surprise. Congratulations Dave, you did a wonderful job..keep it up, I know you will be consistent and we will be amongst your regular patrons. I didn’t expect much for a local Mahopac restaurant, even after friends at the bar said the food was good; but this soon changed. We were seated on schedule to our reservations. The separate drink menu was a surprise with excellent mixology. You as owner promptly came to greet us at the table. We asked if we could combine dinners to make “surf and turf”, you said “of course”. The waitress was pleasant and perfectly attentive. Your Blackberry Sangria was refreshing and perfectly mixed, as were the other drinks serves. We ordered a variety of excellent appetizers including your personal recipe Iceberg Lettuce Wedge that was a special treat. Then the challenge. We ordered “surf and turf” off the menu. It combined a petite filet with an 8oz lobster tail. BOTH were fresh and cooked to PERFECTION! Everything was just perfect. Then came the biggest surprise! Based on what we ordered the price was extremely reasonable. We left a generous tip and look forward to returning. Thanks Dave..Andy Powers...
