I used to love this place, but between this year and last I've noticed a ton of mistakes. Wrong orders, wrong sizes, and this year an unsanitary practice.
First off, prices. Absolutely a rip-off for what you get. We ordered 4 small cones to try their hard ice cream flavors and it was $5 each. That's $20. I have never spent $20 here or anywhere else to buy my family ice cream. Soft serve wasn't much better, price-wise. Over $4 for a small? Come on. By comparison the day before we went to Jolly Cow in Kingston and with a sundae, a large and two medium cones we paid $15. Much more reasonable. Cone-E Island has always been more expensive but this has gone over the line into unreasonable territory, especially considering the amount you get in return.
Second, get your orders right. I don't care if it's busy, you write your orders down - get it right. Multiple times we've all gotten the wrong size. I've ordered a twist only to get chocolate (which I was fine with as I was on the fence between twist and chocolate anyway).
Third... This is the real deal breaker. My niece was handed a cone, the ice cream was melting too fast and started to fall so she scooped it into her hand and placed it in a dish.... She said it was with her bare hands which is not only unsanitary but absolutely unsafe in the middle of a pandemic. Possible she was wearing gloves and she was mistaken but just give her a new cone at that point - stop being stingy.
But that's not the end of it. My niece also said there was a piece of apple in her chocolate ice cream. Come on, I don't know how that even happens!
All this for $20.
I will never come here again. If I'm in Catskill I'll just go to Stewart's across the street. At least they get your order right and won't charge you an arm and a leg. Otherwise if I want soft ice cream I'll go to Mickey's Igloo in Saugerties or Jolly Cow in Kingston. Even Cairo and Coxsackie have better options.
Do better, especially with your prices. You can argue that the hard ice cream is "homemade" so costs more to produce but that should not affect your other offerings. This place is a...
Read more5/5 stars, and here's why: I worked here in high school and it's the best job I've ever had. The owners themselves make sure everything is spotless inside and they treat their employees so well--we got minimum wage but we all split tips, got free ice cream every shift and at the end of the season. When high school was still in, the manager would encourage us to do our homework; she even helped me with my math homework a few times. Every shift was fun. Our manager would often times defend us from rude customers and did not take any nonsense. I loved helping my manager home make the whipped cream. The ice cream is delicious too. I personally love eating here and highly recommend the ice cream cakes. I'd often go on my days off with my younger siblings and have many silly memories there...
Read moreThis is a local ice cream stand that is a very worthwhile summertime stop. It's a short walk from the West Main Street marinas or the "downtown" Main street area. The selection will please both young and old with all the topping and choices you'd ever want. The portions are generous and always delicious. There are plenty of benches and tables to sit and enjoy the view of the waterfront. There's parking, but it can get crowded at peak times. There are several coin-op kids rides, but a few were not working during the late part of the 2017 season. Hopefully, these will be repaired since the kids enjoy these as much as the ice...
