Wasn't really sure what to expect from this place, but I did not leave disappointed. I tried a couple things off the menu, including one of the donuts that are part of the namesake, an original “hotdog“, and a brown sugar milk tea.
I got a Cheesecake donut, which was topped with a little teaser of cheesecake on it. Fortunately I had read a little bit about mochi donuts beforehand so I knew it would be something a little chewier, and it definitely was but I enjoyed it.
The original “hotdog“ was essentially a corndog, lol. It was huge and came with a serving of ketchup. Not a cornmeal breading, but something more crunchy. It was a nice little snack.
The last thing I tried was the brown sugar milk tea which I’ve had before at other places and this one was good. I liked the way it was served.
Though I got things to-go, I appreciated it seeing the fresh batch of donuts being prepared in the kitchen, and the staff were friendly as well. The place offers a menu full of other things I'd consider coming back for to try, such as Korean...
Read moreEven though there were mixed reviews, we decided to give this place a try and the experience landed somewhere in the middle.
This place is very new at the time of this review and there seems to be some growing pains of starting up a business and they've admitted to it through some of their reviews which I highly respect.
The mochi donuts were pretty tasty. I would say I prefer them to traditional donuts. They were still nice and soft even the following day. The hot dogs were decent. It seems that they had a problem with undercooking them in other review but it seems they've figured that out. The boba tea is a big negative for me. The taste is okay, could use some tweaking. The tapioca is not up to the standard of regular boba tea shops. They were smaller and stale-like. It's consistency matches pre-packaged tapioca which is not great in the first place.
The lady taking our orders was very nice and brought food to our table.
The atmosphere is lacking but it mostly due to the layout of the building but there can still be some...
Read moreThe Mochi Shack is my favorite place to get authentic mochi donuts and mochi dough treats. I always get the full mozzarella one with potatoes and it's so crispy! The cheese pull is my favorite part of the experience! My husband said the hot Cheetos one honestly didn't taste hot or really like hot Cheetos at all so that was the only disappointing thing. The food and donuts are made fresh and the texture is unlike anything else. I've ordered this for delivery a few times as well as had it in the restaurant and it really never disappoints me. I like the different flavors of donuts and they've expanded their food menu as well to include things like ramen and chicken wings. I hope to try their food soon but they are absolutely good at what they are known...
