The girl at the counter with the piercings was nice enough. My biggest issue customer service wise was with the older woman, pink shirt, long grey hair. A sign on one of the fridges said to ask about the dog bones, so we asked about the dog bones! The woman proceeds to look at us blankly, say “okay” and continue dead staring. We asked how much they were, she said it depended on the size. Asked how large each bone is, if they would have to be dethawed or were safe to give to the dog straight from the bag, blank stare. Finally just to get out of the awkward conversation we said we would take a medium bone whenever she got a moment (she was the same woman who had gotten our chicken salad earlier). She groans, and then gets the bone and spiedie we asked for. We came in around 1:50 pm, well before close. People have bad days or bad moods but ultimately this woman allowed that to affect our experience negatively.
As far as the food goes, my mother says they have great chicken salad which is why we went. I don’t like chicken salad, so I can only attest for the “special” posted, a chicken bacon ranch on an herbed wrap (no tomato, for me). What I received was chicken fingers, drenched in ranch dressing, and approximately three shreds of lettuce. On an herbed wrap! I love ranch dressing but for there to be almost no lettuce, that’s been wilted from the heat of the chicken finger, it was revolting. In total we purchased Wrap special/ came with ~7 ruffles potato chips. 1/5 stars Blt/ mom said this was good but she also doesn’t s a saint and liked the counter girl (I liked her too she was just doin her job) 1/2 pound speedie 1 med. dog bone 1/2 lb chicken salad
I’m total we spent $60 on all of this. $60!!! Quite steep pricing considering my wrap is not edible. Overall I wouldn’t return, but again, I don’t like...
Read moreMy husband went in and placed an order. He ordered two subs and a chicken tender basket. 30mins went by and nothing. Then an hour went by and we finally got our food after asking what was going on. We traveled 45mins into town to try this out. We understand things happen, the problem came into play that our fries were cold and our sandwich was made incorrectly. We had an family event planned that we had to head out to since we were already late due to waiting for an hr for food. I called the store and talked to a women named Kelly? ...and explained the situation to her..... she told me that I could turn back around and bring the food back to her and she would make the order within 5mins ( why wasn't this the case the first time?). If not then we would have to hold on to the food and bring it back to her later tonight and then she would have them remake it. So I have to hold on to food that is no good due to it being cold and wrong even after you made us wait an hour? Our in laws ordered before us, got their food , sat down, ate and walked their dog before we even got ours. We didn't have time to simply turn around and go back. I explained to her that we were late for the event and we were close to an hour away and wouldn't be able to come back. We were really looking forward to having a really good lunch but that is not the case.
Adding on the fact that 2 subs and chicken tenders was almost $45!!!!!
It would have been different if she told us to come back.sometime this week and she would remake just the items that were messed up but to ask us to hold on to the items is a bit much.
Never...
Read moreThe Holy Cow Deli in Watkins Glen has become a regular stop for me, not just for the reliably fresh and delicious food, but also for its convenient location whether I'm heading out for a day of photography or just need a great meal. Their sandwiches, subs, and salads are always top-notch; you really can taste the quality ingredients. It's the kind of place where once you've had a sandwich from here, it's hard to go anywhere else! They're also incredibly friendly and clearly a part of the local community, as evidenced by their monthly breakfast for Veterans.
It's worth noting that The Holy Cow can get quite lively, and when it's really busy, the noise level can make conversation a bit challenging, which is fairly typical for popular spots. Parking can also be a bit tricky during peak times. However, these minor inconveniences are easily outweighed by the consistently excellent food and service. For anyone visiting Watkins Glen, whether you're planning a hike, a photography excursion, or just passing through and looking for a fantastic lunch, The Holy Cow Deli is definitely a five-star...
