My wife and I have been loyal Seneca Harbor Station customers for the past 6 years. We make 2 to 3 trips a year to Watkins to participate in vintage racing events and we ensure that every time we do, we have dinner here. So, naturally, we decided to bring our group of 4 our to sit outside along the water and enjoy the nice weather. There was even live music to entertain us. The person performing was quite good but the volume was so loud that we couldn't hear one another talk, nor could the waitstaff hear us, nor could we hear them. More on that later.
I asked our waitress if she could "turn the music down just a touch . . . say 6%" so that we could enjoy a bit of conversation while we waited for our drinks and such. Off she went . . . back she came. Nothing was done. No problem. I asked her again and she responded that there is nothing that can be done. I asked her to call over the manager. The manager comes over and I asked her, can she please turn the music down just a little. I emphasized just a little but to no avail. The manager even agreed with us that it deafeningly loud. So, I then offered to give the musician a tip if he would just turn it down a tad. It didn't need much to be tolerable but it was so loud that I was getting a headache. The manager said that was impossible and only the owner could tell the musician to turn it down. So, I nicely ask if she can call the owner and she does. So far, apart from the music being loud, everything is pretty civil. Then the manager explains the situation and returns with a firm "No." Apparently, the owner wanted the music loud enough to attract attention from the Historic event going on downtown and couldn't care less about the patrons already eating at his / her establishment. Things turned a little sour here. I was not asking for a free meal, a free drink, nor a credit. I wasn't asking to turn the music off nor was I even asking them to turn it down 1/2 way. Just a small concession so that my family and I could enjoy our visit and our meal. I must admit, I was shocked and quite angry that this simple and quite reasonable request was met with a firm "No" which was a clear indication that the owner couldn't care less about their customers. Why would I spend a dime in a place where the patron who is currently spending their money isn't as important as the potential customer yet to sit down? This increasing trend in the restaurant world where chefs, owners, and bartenders treat their clientele as if they should be so very lucky to be graced by the sheer privilege to spend money in their establishment boggles human imagination. Whatever happened to two parties having a mutually beneficial relationship where the customer is respected and vice versa. Well, not at the Seneca Harbor Station. Spend your money at one of the myriad of other establishments where your business will be appreciated instead of one where an owner's greed and ego feeds far too much into their decision making ability. In full disclosure, it has never really been about the food. They have a great location and the food is pretty average.
Now I'm sure the owner will write something scathing back even though they weren't present at the time and I assure whomever they are that I don't care and I'll be certain to spread the word about your place. Too bad actually. Make the drive to the Stone Cat Cafe up the hill. Amazing food, great scenery, and the owners and staff are spectacular. It's worth the drive and you won't be...
Read moreAaron and I went to this restaurant for Valentine’s Day despite the bad reviews. We figured that people only post reviews when they are dissatisfied and were determined that if our experience was good, we would leave a great review. We went in and only had to wait a few minutes to get out reserved seats. The place was packed but had a nice, warm atmosphere. There was one seat left near the windows over looking the water but the hostess wasn’t going to seat us there because it was a tight space but I told her that we would prefer it. She let us move to that seat. The lighting at that table was perfect. It was nestled in a corner and we could see the water, even though it was dark out. We were disappointed at first because the menu was a special Valentine’s Day menu that was different from the menu online. We had chosen that restaurant based on the menu. But we quickly found a dish that each of us would like. The waitress (Colleen) was super friendly. They gave us warm garlic bread complimentary, which was delicious!!!! When our food arrived Aaron noticed that his dish wasn’t what he ordered. They took it back to get his order fixed quickly. Then Will came back and offered to keep my food warm while he waited for his to be brought. I declined. When I noticed that mozzarella cheese was missing from my dish, Will quickly took it back and added cheese. The food was soooo delicious and worth the wait. We felt like they handled the mistakes in a very professional manner and understood that on a very busy night like Valentine’s Day, mistakes are bound to happen. To amend their mistake they gave us two free desserts which we took to go. We ended up getting the cheese cake which was very delicious. Colleen appologized for the mistake and even took out picture for us. We definitely loved our evening at this beautiful restaurant and are willing to highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to eat with delicious food, great service and warm and...
Read moreWent here on a whim shortly after quarantine of 2020. The service was great right from the start. they offered us inside, or outside seating, with outside options being beachfront or covered porch settings. Of course, I chose the beachfront, literally sitting in the sand with the water less than 5-feet away. It was beautiful, even though I decided to close the umbrella due to the wind (absolutely 100% not their fault!!!). Our waitress, I believe her name was Elaine, was amazing. All I had to do was think about asking for something and she was walking up. The service alone earned this place 4-stars, even if they served me a ham and cheese sandwich. The food however, was out of this world. We ordered strictly seafood, sort of. the bacon-wrapped shrimp and scallops app is awesome, the sauce adds the perfect accent. I'm not even sure of the name of the dish I ordered, but it had fish, shrimp, scallops, and a very delicious crab cake. It was out of this world. As to compliment our meal, and I was also very much intrigued, we also ordered a cup of the seafood bisque that happened to be a special of the day. I was expecting a chowder type soup with a few clams mixed in. I thought wrong. It was delicious, with large pieces of lobster, fish, shrimp, scallops, and whatever else they thought they needed to create this fantastic bisque! Wow. I'd give this place...
