There’s something to be said for a place that gets the little things right without making a show of it.
We arrived late, having just checked into our hotel. The kitchen had closed. My wife had already set her heart on the pesto caprese grilled cheese the moment she looked at the menu, but it wasn’t on the limited late-night list. Not much on there for vegetarians, either. It looked like we were out of luck.
Rebecca, the bartender, was kind and helpful. She mentioned the chef might be able to make it happen. What we didn’t realize was that the chef—off-duty, seated at the end of the bar enjoying a quiet drink—had overheard us. Without saying a word, he got up and went into the kitchen.
A few minutes later, out came the exact sandwich my wife had hoped for, and a grilled cheese BLT with pickles for me. Both were excellent. Simple, satisfying, made with care. We only found out after the fact that the chef had stepped back in to make them himself.
It’s a small thing. But also not small at all.
The space is inviting. Music was great. The view of the lake is beautiful. But what makes Lucky Hare stand out is how they treat you—like a guest, not a transaction.

Read moreThere were flies all over my table. then My server got annoyed when I asked for only cheese on my burger. It's not their job to judge what people order. I didn't even ask for any sort of discount, why would they care if I don't want certain items? Then my burger came with lettuce, onions, and some sort of garlic sauce on it anyway. Normally I would just eat it and not complain but because I was frustrated with her before I decided to complain. when I complained she became further annoyed and didn't even apologize and seemed to think it was ridiculous that I only wanted cheese. Meanwhile she apologized like five times to my companion just because she took a while to get his drink, and she gave him his drink for free but didn't even give me a discount on my burger even though it was a much larger inconvenience to have my entire entree messed up.
I gave them two stars instead of one because they had a support LGBT sticker on their window. And the view of the...
Read moreThe only good thing about our experience was the view. The other waitress that helped us and the hostest was great. But our original waiter never came at first. After about 15 minutes I went in to ask if we were going to be helped at all. She looked at me like she was so confused. We never saw her again. The other lady that helped us was great tho. I wish we had just started with her. The food was awful. First the hot chocolate came out almost cold, the hot coco mix was all clumped on the top and bottom. And they didnt bring out any cream or sugar for the coffee. The sausage and gravy came out cold as well. The waffles were also hard like they had been microwaved and then left it sit for a while. It would not have surprised me any if our first waitress just let them sit, completely forgetting about us again. I wanted to like this place. I was excited to try their food as the menu looked good. I'm sorry I did. For the price I expected better, even for it...
