We stopped in while we were in Ellicottville for the weekend. I’ve been to EBC a few times and have always enjoyed it. I had been wanting to try this new concept for awhile now but am usually not in the area.
The space itself is gorgeous. Open, exposed brick, lots of room and a great street view to people watch. The service was good and staff was helpful. The food was good but the portions were extremely small. I am all for small plates and higher end ingredients. My appetite isn’t even that big. But the portions here could have used more if they want to keep their pricing where it is.
We started with the queso and chorizo. It was authentic and delicious. It comes out hot, in a little crock. You need to eat it fast or it hardens up. It wasn’t a problem to polish this off quickly. We decided to split 4 tacos to try 4 different things. They have their own hot sauces which were a nice added flavor to the tacos. We had the Al pastor, chorizo, Diego (Barbacoa) and the street corn shrimp. The al pastor was tasty, good seasoning and the pineapple was delish. The chorizo was seasoned well but the meat was ground very finely, a little too much like a paste, just my opinion. The Diego was a Barbacoa, which had good flavor but the meat was a bit dry. The street shrimp taco was very crispy and the street corn topping was wonderful. I am very used to street taco sized shells. For $4.50 and up per taco I am used to a bit more protein. After we each had half of each taco I don’t think there was more than a bite of protein for each person. The margaritas were also very small, full of ice and not too strong. We had a nice time out but I think next time I’d prefer their...
Read moreAte at this restaurant three times in one week. First time was takeout and seemed a bit unorganized when I picked up and had to wait for 15 extra minutes but the food was good.
The second time, my family and I went there for lunch and it was very crowded but the waitress was very nice and we ordered the queso dip with veggies and some tacos. Everything was good.
This last time, it was a mess. Went in on a Tuesday night. One server and one bartender on with 2 young guys in the kitchen. Waited for a short period of time to place our order, although the waitress apologized to us for the wait. Ordered the Queso and Veggie appetizer again and it was TERRIBLE...It was very hard and sent back to the kitchen. It then came out again and was worse than the first time. this appetizer is supposed to be a dip. My wife dipped a tortilla chip in it and the whole thing came up like a very thin pancake. When the waitress came over and asked us how it was, we began to answer her but she walked away. She didn't want to know the answer as she had more table to attend to. This was disappointing to say the least. When you have a bunch of kids running the place, it doesn't always work out well for your customers. I would expect...
Read moreAttention tourists and skiers! You will not be able to order to go from this restaurant or any of them for that matter in Ellicottville. This place was so packed full of people at 7:30 there was barely enough room to open the door, yet they couldn’t make a to go order? My husband and I visited all the way from tennessee and the hostess couldn’t care less. I have never been tuned down to go service by 4 restaurants back to back in my life. Not to mention they didn’t answer their phone. The best dinner we’ve had in ellicottville during our week ski trip was gas station pizza from the red apple because ellicottville brewing company amoung all the others refuse to serve tourists to go. Mind you my husband and I just left the mountain and we’re wearing wet ski attire, so would you want to stand around and then sit in wet clothes to eat at a restaurant? I know we didn’t. Its not like we could have went home to change because by the time we would, the kitchens would be closed! It’s utterly insane, never again will I come to ellicottville and I probably won’t ski at holiday valley again because of this...
