Hidalgo Grill Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Town of Ellicottville

We are in town for the eclipse and went to two other restaurants before landing on this one. The other two were understaffed and just felt like we were going to have a bad time so we just got up and left before anyone even came to take our order. Hidalgos saved us big time. They sat us quickly and immediately were attentive and nice. The food was priced well and very good. The margaritas were great and big size. Only complaint was the radiator next to the booth was set too hot, but it had a knob you could turn down yourself which I did and it was fine after that. We are visiting from out of town and we were hoping to enjoy a good Mexican meal here. I will honestly say this was a very disappointing experience here. All of the food was bland. The Birrias tasted like the meat was from a can and zero flavor. There was hardly any cheese and I asked for some queso to make up for it. They brought cold shredded cheese. So I had to explain I was asking for hot queso. The Fajitas were bland. The tortillas tasted stale. For the price we paid, it should have had at least flavor to go with what we ordered. I would not hear again and I would not recommend this place, unless they did some major learning of how to do basic cooking skills...

The rave reviews are not wrong. The food tastes SO GOOD! This is clearly a family run venture & everyone's heart is in what they do. It was very busy when we arrived and there was a large group waiting for their table. Other people were there for take-out orders. It smelled so good inside I didn't want to give up & leave. After only a few minutes we were greeted with smiles and a recently vacated table was made ready. So happy it worked out! We occasionally visit this town when nearby and there are so many eatery options. But, the next time we're in the area, I'll be looking forward to coming...
