I wish there were half star ratings because I would have given this place 3.5. the atmosphere was nice, very clean, the only complaint is that it was very cold inside and the table they sat us at had cold air blowing directly on it from a vent. My friend complained and the waitress said they would turn it off which was very nice. The table was quite small and would not hold all the dishes we ordered so we had to move to a larger table. Right away I noticed there were no salt and pepper shakers on the table (which I always interpret as a display of arrogance by the chef). We started with the focaccia with whipped ricotta, the focaccia was outstanding, the best I've ever had. The inside was super soft and stretchy, with a nice crisp buttery crust. If I could give it 10 stars I would. Amazing texture and flavor. The whipped ricotta had a nice creamy texture with a decent amount of black pepper on it , which I would imagine some people may not like. We also got the hummus appetizer, that was also really great, the hummus was very creamy and flavorful, the crispy chickpeas on top added some crunch and also had a nice flavor. We tried the chicken and rice stuffed pepper and we both enjoyed that as well..nice flavor profile with the coffee mole, chicken was tender. My friend ordered the cauliflower appetizer which he said was good but had some extremely hot peppers in it. I had the crispy potato dish and I thought it was good but nothing to write home about. (That's when I wished they had a salt shaker on the table) The dish that we were both most excited for and both disappointed by were the carrots, they were served cold. We were not expecting that...the texture of the carrots was good, they were soft and browned but serving them cold was completely unappealing. I was also expecting to taste the cardamom but it was overpowered by some type of vinegar flavor which I couldn't place because there was nothing with vinegar in the dish. The only thing I can guess is the tamarind and apricot juices mixed together may have given it that acidic flavor. The service was great, the food came out extremely fast, although when our first dish was brought the waitress forgot to give us plates and we had to wait a few minutes for another waitress to notice and bring some plates over so we could begin eating. Overall it was good but nothing to rave about, we both agreed it was not something we would go back for, although if I lived in the area I would absolutely order that...
Read moreWent to west rose for new years eve dinner....relatively early like 545. The first impression walking in was good...kind of a Delano vibe meets aspen. Greeted by hostess and served drink in acceptable time although the bar is very crowded space wise. The mystique of what is in the back where you eat that you can't really see from the entry lounge is exciting---almost a great first impression and how they gonna top this feeling. From there it kind of went downhill. We were seated upstairs in what I will call the child room.....zero atmosphere and freaking CHILDREN screaming and running around our party of 7 adults kept with the spirit and ordered apps and dinner . we ordered oysters and the Saltine cracker apps which were good...however we had to seek a server to bring cocktail sauce for the oysters and when it was brought she was like "you need more cocktail sauce here?" Ummmmm no you didnt include it and we had to hunt you down for it. Then the menu...nothing really strikes you either the limited menu. Then after the apps were served they brought bread....one loaf with 5/peices for 7 people! No comment here....Light on salad options and having a pizza section on the menu that serves scallops and oysters is odd. Food was removed from the table before plates were finished there is nothing worse than a server taking your plate when you're saving the last few bites.... service was well staffed but not yet in their groove. I may give it another ttry but insist to be sseated downstairs like an adult and actually pay for the atmosphere I chose the place for in the first place. Prices are fair but they don't have their act together quite yet and please don't EVER allow them to sit you in the children room as an adult its almost like I needed to be paid for zero atmosphere upstairs that resembles a banquet hall and romper room with half...
