Strange Design Public House — Restaurant in Town of Geneseo

Check online and this place looked great. Decided to give it a try after a swim meet at Geneseo.

The good: chicken sandwich with a hot honey bourbon glaze was great. The beers were well made. The owner was awesome! He ended up finishing the table service and made the experience end well. The atmosphere and place it self was pretty cool, historic structure.

The Bad: the server and hostess should not be working in this industry. They had a poor vibe going on from the time we entered the building. The hostess (dark hair, thin girl) was rolling her eyes at another coworker and had negitive body language. Our server (blonde) was even worse. She was hurrying our every move and seemed to have zero patience. When she checked on us after we got Our food I told her that my wife’s fries we cold and we never got our appetizer, we were never given silverware or napkins. She went and got them with an eye roll and some attitude. Then came back 15 min later without fries but did have our appetizer. We told her to just for get about them since we were nearly done eating. She immediately became very disrespectful and was gaslighting us into making us feel like we were mistreating her! We never raised our voices or personally insulted her in anyway. Just asked to have the fries we didn’t receive removed from our bill. Thank goodness the owner took over our table and the table behind us who was equally displeased with her poor attitude. The owner made it right and was great! saved his servers horrible service. I took my family to the soft opening on Thursday September 2nd. Ryan, the hostess was very excited and very organized. 2 bartenders working seamlessly to serve the bar and handle drink orders. 18 beer tap! They had 4 of their beers on today. I started with the new bourbon cocktail, Spiral! Very refreshing. My next drink was the Tropical IPA. Wow…. Great beer. Seated at our table, Vincent went over the numerous specials with great detail. We chose the fried cauliflower, meat and cheese board, and the flat bread for appetizers! Amazing… my dinner was the chicken fingers. I know, I know…. I’m a big kid and these are hand made chicken fingers! To die for…. Fries with it that are hand cut and very good. I had samples of my mothers Chicken fried steak, and my fathers meatloaf sandwich. I did not have room to try my daughters lobster burger, and my other daughters entree but they were very happy! To try everything I had and be impressed by all the different options is an understatement. Very fresh and a lot of thought into everything here. We haven’t even talked about the scene either. Oh my…. The setting for this establishment is awesome. Very cool old building that Strange Design has kept as a show piece to just walk around and look at. Picnic tables and a fire pit outside once this fully opens! We will DEFINITELY be back. Lots more food and drinks to try! Great job...

I have been to strange design many times and ordered the same harvest salad … however tonight there happened to be a wedding party in the basement of the restaurant which we were told … we waited an hour for our food which we had to go up and say something, they brought our food …. The harvest salad has Brussel sprouts, Gorgonzola cheese, apples, cran raisins and onions …. I got a salad with uncooked hard brussel sprouts, lettuce onion and blue cheese, no cran raisins hard brussel sprouts and blue cheese !!!! Complained and the waitress took my salad back. ( she was very accommodating and this was not her fault) the salad came back and the brussel sprouts were removed … cran raisins added ….. blue cheese on the salad , no Gorgonzola cheese, no brussel sprouts , it was literally blue cheese, onions and cran raisins.. oh and apples on the side … not the salad on the menu at all!!! The waitress apologized etc. however they still charged me for the horrible salad which was thrown together and not at all the salad I ordered…. When you have customers who patronize your business more often than a wedding party and this is the service you get …...
