The food here is pretty much all around glorious let’s get that out of the way firstly. But one thing that was super odd and out of place during our last visit was that the menus smelled *horrid* like they were “cleaned” with a very mildewy/dirty sponge. I’ve never experienced it at another restaurant before and I have no idea why that’s a thing because the entire restaurant is very well groomed and put together as a whole. Please address that strange issue! OK back to the amazing bits: the eats!! The best starter by far is the either lamb or beef chili with insanely punchy flavor. I am not completely in love with their momos (and I’m obsessed with dumplings in general) not that they’re bad or anything but there’s so many other dishes from Himalaya that are more worthy stuffing yourself silly with instead in my humble opinion. I’ve tried the thali before and enjoyed sampling everything but this time I split a lamb makhini and a balgan bhartha (eggplant curry) with rice and poori. And OH MY LORD both dishes were so good and spicy and flavourful... Sometimes the lamb can be a bit chewy but nope - this lamb was on point. Apologies for the messy pics I couldn’t resist starting to eat before I remembered I wanted to snap a few! I also stole some of my partners chicken tikka which I’m usually not a big fan of but it was incredibly tomato-y and rich. I’m making myself hungry now so thank god there’s leftovers in the fridge. The staff is always very helpful and courteous too. All in all I’m looking forward to the next time I return but fingers crossed the menus will be less stinky!

Jewel of Himalaya is an understatement. It's a temple of gustatory spirituality. The decor and music are soothingly beautiful and the food spectacular. Every dish is dramatically different. The Himalayan Makhini looks like a bowl of meat chunks in red sauce, but when it hits the tongue, an alien world of mystery and delight floods into the senses, as if the tongue were a portal to another world. It's divine beyond description - there are no words - but, there never are with great food. It has only to be experienced to be understood, although it will still leave you speechless. I ordered the Sizzling Shrimp. Freaking awesome. A surprising feature of the place is the sheer subtle insanity of the birthday ritual. We were so delighted and excited that our effort to record a video went wildly awry - but- a hint: it involves gongs, a sparker and a mask, and incredible mango pistachio sorbet. A must.

This is one of our fav restaurants in the world, I can go on and on about the taste, love their sizzlers and chicken curry is just out of the world. The rai saag is so difficult to find in the US but they have it. Most of their dishes are amazing, we will keep trying more every week for sure cos they are opening a new location nearby. And they are very careful about the spice levels, so when you say mild it is really mild and this is something I appreciate about them, they keep their words unlike many other places where mild is served as hot. The service is top-notch. A special shout out to Pemby, she is really very careful while taking orders and very friendly and polite, makes you feel at home :) I m extremely excited about their branching out to Norwalk, it will be much closer to where we live. Earlier we drove all the way to Scarsdale just for their food and it took 45 mins one way, so their opening up in Norwalk is like a dream come true. They put up musical performances (not sure if it’s only in the summers) and thats a treat along with the food, they have amazing performances of instrumental music. Everything about the decor brings back so much peace right from the Himalayas. Indian cuisine is quite diverse ranging from South Indian styles to North Indian to Bengal to Nepalese, these are some the few broader categories and each style reflects unique flavors associated with the particular region. Im glad that we have an authentic Nepalese style in Himalaya and I hope they continue maintaining their own recipes....

We recently visited this restaurant hoping to enjoy a nice meal, but unfortunately, the experience was anything but pleasant. After our server took our order, we were completely ignored for the rest of the evening. No check-ins, no refills, not even a simple "Is everything okay?"

This would be frustrating under normal circumstances, but given that the restaurant was nearly empty with only two other tables occupied, it was completely unacceptable. What really added insult to injury was the surprise 20% gratuity automatically tacked onto our bill for a party of just three people ! That kind of greedy practice explains the lack of service. There’s clearly no incentive for the staff to care once your order is in.

I fear I also need to add the musician who seemed very nice and played beautifully, was clipping his nails at the bar during his break. Nail clippings flying everywhere. You can’t make this stuff up!

To make matters worse, the food which was once the highlight of this place, has declined noticeably. What used to be exceptional is now merely mediocre. Maybe it was an off night in the kitchen? Not sure.

This visit made it clear that this restaurant no longer values its customers. We will absolutely not...
