Ordered garlic ginger chicken combo and wonton soup.
First, the soup. Wontons were delicious, broth was good, I've had better, but it was yellowish-clear, so I am grateful it wasn't loaded up with soy sauce, which makes it brown and tastes awful. Scallions were crispy. My issue is that I paid $6.98 for a medium, and received 3 wontons. That's ridiculous. I know that everything has gone up, but that is ridiculous. Not happy about it, and if that's the price, I can't recommend.
The entree was a mixed bag also. The chicken and the veg with it were wonderful, truly. The rice was bad...I mean bad. It was clumpy and flavorless. I paid an extra $2.50 for egg fried rice, and yeah, I'm not going to claim there was no egg in it, but when I tell you there were maybe 4 of the tiniest pencil-eraser sized pieces of egg in there, it's because I know how to count to 4. Seriously, maybe 4 pieces, and that might be because I split one piece with my fork as I searched.
Got in and out quickly, seems like a nice place to sit and dine in (I did takeout), and parking is not bad as long as the rest of the businesses in the plaza aren't busy.
Biggest issue is the value. My wife and I owned a food truck up until recently, I know about food prices and what it takes to make a profit, but this was too much.
I won't visit again due to the lack of value.
If you do go, stick with the plain white rice, if you feel the need to get rice at all. My guess would be yours is going to have the same issue that I experienced, as I'm imagining all they do is take cooked white rice and toss it with the add-ons and fry it up.
Again, a shame because the majority of the meal was tasty, but I'm not paying $30 when $19-22 is more than fair.
Update: business replied, and to their credit, they didn't whine or moan about my review. Good for them. Their food (minus the rice) is excellent, and I really would love to eat there again, it's just a little pricey, not ridiculously out of touch, but it is on the high side. Next time I'm in the area, I might give them another try, they have a bunch of items that I can only imagine how good they are based on what I ate already. Maybe someone I work with will split something with me....
Read moreThe three of us had a very enjoyable lunch today. I was happy to see "beef with hot oil" on the specials board and the owner confirmed that is indeed the Szechuan 'boiled-style beef' dish that is so hard to find in this area. It was a huge bowl of wonderful spicy, numbing goodness! For future visits I asked the owner if he does "dry-pot" as well and he said, yes, that is listed on the white board special menu in chinese but he would soon be writing up english translations of those dishes on a paper menu. That's a good thing as I'm sure there are other non-chinese who would be happy to see these other dishes available. Husband ordered the "spicy chicken" which happily turned out to be Quongquing Chicken (or something very close to it) -- another hard to find dish. The marinated cucumber appetizer was good while also quite different than we expected. Rather than the usual spicy/vinegary dish we're used to, the cucumbers had been dressed in a salty marinade. Very cooling and refreshing with the spicy food. Son's Shanghai soup dumplings were excellent. They did not have as much liquid soup in them as we prefer, yet they were still very moist and were deliciously flavored. The only slight misstep was Son's chicken lo mein. Given the $13 price point, he was expecting something a bit different than basic, standard lo mein. The dish was perfectly serviceable and was freshly made but wasn't anything special. Service was very friendly but a bit disjointed. Our dishes each came out when they were ready rather than in any sort of appetizer-then-entree organized sequence. We were fine with that but if you want to receive your dishes in a certain order, make sure you specify that...
Read moreWhen Eddy's first opened it was great and I loved it. However, it has gone downhill since then. I understand the pandemic has created obstacles, but if they can't handle dine-in then they should only do take out.
While dining in, the staff was running around and couldn't remember our order at first. He didn't offer any drinks at all the entire time we were there. And any time we asked for something we had to ask again and again and he still forgot. There would be huge gaps of time of him coming to the table and it was hard to ask for anything. As for the food, it wasn't that good. The fried rice was sooo salty. We wanted the potstickers on the menu and he said "we don't have time to make them since we are busy with takeout". Which shows that dine-in customers were not their priority. Eventually he went back and asked the chef and they finally made it. The orange beef's recipe completely changed and was overly sweet and tough- terrible now. It used to be amazing. The beef in the fried rice was just fatty and tough and I couldn't eat half of it. The quality of the food has deteriorated.
Overall, I am disappointed in Eddy's. If dine in is something they can't handle, then don't offer it. The entire time, we did not feel like guests. It was a terrible dining experience. And the food is no longer as good as it was when it...
