The Rusty Nail — Restaurant in Town of Harrietstown

I was excited to try this place out as it’s recommended in the top 20 places to visit around Saranac Lake and man were they wrong… we no sooner walked in and everyone glared at us making us feel uncomfortable. It was very obvious we weren’t wanted. I don’t write reviews for places but I felt I needed to because the bartender was so rude. We sat down trying to figure out what we wanted and instead of walking to us she shouted from behind the bar that we needed to come up and order and we told her we were deciding what we wanted. She then singled out my fiancé ( who doesn’t drink and didn’t bring his id because he wasn’t gonna drink) and demanded his ID and when he told her he didn’t bring it because he wasn’t going to drink, she disregarded the rest of us who did bring IDs and wanted to drink , and said she wouldn’t serve us. We told her the rest of us brought our IDs because we planned on drinking then she called us “out of towners”, so between feeling unwanted and angry, we left not even 5 minutes into being there. Definitely not welcoming...

Any people here from out of state looking for a place to eat, this is not the place. You’re not welcome here , the staff makes that very clear. Immediately walking in, I got awful glares and no one served nor talked to me. The place smelt like moist, wet dog, would not recommend spending your time here. Instead, I recommend a great restaurant with pleasant staff and beautiful views on the water , the Cottage on Lake Pacid. I went there after leaving the Rust Nail (I wasn’t even there for a few minutes before unfortunately having to leaving) and I was so happy I found that restaurant. Don’t come here with your family and friends , not welcoming to out of state people...

The Rusty Nail is not your average dive bar. It has the local flair and the locals to go with, but there's so much more. Always decorated for the next upcoming holiday. You can count on the same staff being there with an occasional new person, they open early in the day for those day drinkers, (you know who you are), a back yard for smokers and non smokers alike, with comfortable seating in and out of the sun, a fire pit for cooler weather, and the best pool table around. Stop by by yourself or with some friends I promise you'll leave with more friends than you had when...
