We have gone to Blue Moon Cafe for several years during our summer vacation to the Saranac Lake area. We have always had great food, hot coffee and good service. Today our opinion of Blue Moon was changed for the worse. My mom has lived with a allergy to nuts for over 20 years that at its worst will cause her to go into anaphylactic shock. Upon arrival my parents and I each got a cup of dark roast coffee. My mom took a single sip of her coffee and realized it was hazelnut flavored. We immediately notified the employees of the issue and the lack of concern was alarming. They told us it was the fault of a new employee who took hazelnut coffee and poured it into the dark roast container and that they would switch the coffee to its correct container. However, not once were we asked if she was alright or needed anything. Prior to our food arriving I left to go purchase Benadryl at the pharmacy next door, throughout that process we were still not asked if she was okay. After our food arrived we quickly ate it as at this point my mom was very itchy and in some places felt herself tingling. We asked to speak to the manager who was also the owner and her response was “I don’t know what else to say but sorry”. My mom’s food was withdrawn from the bill, however the lack of alarm or concern made us very disappointed. Sadly, our favorite Adirondack breakfast place has left a lack-luster impression. I am not one to leave a negative review of a small business establishment, however, the owner’s lack of awareness of such a serious issue is of concern. In a time when many individuals live with intolerances and allergies to food, food safety is of the...

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to dine inside a hot yoga studio that also serves great food, look no further. Walking into this establishment was like stepping into a sauna—only without the relaxation or the eucalyptus scent. Just the thick, muggy embrace of stale fryer air and the slow realization that sweat will be your side dish.

Our waitress was a true minimalist when it came to customer service—she mastered the art of doing the absolute least with a vape pen in one hand and a haunting apathy in the other. Between her frequent vape sabbaticals out front and in plainsight, she graced us with the occasional grunt and a blank stare that said, "I used to care, but then I took this job." My order came out as a fun surprise because she clearly prefers to roll the dice rather than write things down.

The ambiance? Think deli-turned-diner, but no one updated the staff or the thermostat. Honestly, it’s like the place had an identity crisis in 2009 and never recovered.

Now, to be fair—and because my therapist says I should try gratitude—the hostesses were fantastic. Friendly, welcoming, and seemingly the only ones who knew which end of the restaurant was up. Bless their overworked hearts.

Overall? If you’re looking to sweat profusely while questioning every life decision that led you here, this is your spot. Otherwise, maybe just go sit in your car with the windows up on a sunny day. It’s basically the same thing,...

I have been to Blue Moon on three occasions since July 2023. With each visit I feel like the experience keeps getting worse. My first visit was pleasant, our server was friendly and attentive, the food was pretty good, and our table at the back kept us away from the crowd. These last two visits I have sat in the front of the restaurant, which is overcrowded and extremely loud. We have had the same server both times, but she has never given her name. Both times it felt like she was busy with doing things behind the bar and barely checked on us or any other table. Today we had a slight miscommunication and my eggs were prepared incorrectly, not a huge deal, and she did in fact get me the eggs I requested. All I can say is the scrambled eggs I was given were definitely not fresh. They seemed like the typical liquid eggs you would receive at any old diner and quite frankly they were gross. We had ordered drinks other than water, which we never received. Our waitress realized this when she eventually came to clear our plates and offered for us to take the drinks to go, but we opted out of it since we had already finished eating. It has felt difficult to get staffs attention upon every visit, as the restaurant seems to be taking in more customers than they can handle serving. I live in the area and I wish this felt like a better option for breakfast and brunch, but among locals Blue Moon doesn't have a...

What a GEM!! Blue Moon is great. If you are looking for great food at a place that feels like the people really care - you gotta try Blue Moon. We went once for breakfast while on a short stay in Saranac Lake. If you are looking for the usual eggs, bacon, pancakes and toast, they have it, but boy that’s just the start. The breakfast menu is so diverse and unique it is hard to choose. I had corned beef hash, fried eggs and a home made English muffin. It was delicious!! The eggs were perfect (over easy) and the hash was a nice even mix of beef and potatoes. My wife had eggs, bacon, home fries and a thick slice of wheat toast (it also looked home made). Any no worry - you can tell the home fries were fresh made, kinda rustic style. I would go back in a minute if we ever come back to the area.

Absolutely the best service, thank you to our waiter, I wish I remembered his name! In addition to our breakfast we had a keylime shortbread- so good! I'm not a coffee drinker but the kids loved the coffee bar setup where you can refill your own mug and add cream, sugar, etc. Very clever idea. The cafe itself is adorably rustic and filled with photos from local photographers which are lovely to view. Food was good and well portioned. None of us finished our plates and we all appreciated the unique selection - not just basic breakfast items. Definitely recommend.
