Barrier Brewing Co. is the collaborative effort of brewers Evan Klein and Craig Frymark, located in Oceanside, NY. Brewing their first batches on a 1bbl system (2 kegs at a time!) in June 2010, the two expanded the business to a 5bbl brewhouse in June 2012 which operated for four short months before being severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. After several months of rebuilding, Barrier reopened in late-February 2013. The brewery currently produces nearly 50 different beers throughout the year totaling 1500bbl annually, all of which is self-distributed throughout the NY metro area.
Food: They don't serve food but they have different and great food trucks rotating there. It's in the industrial section of Oceanside so plan your eating options ahead of time.

Read moreWith all of the mediocrity in the Long Island Brewery scene, Barrier stands out like a wolf in a sheep herd. Just be sure to bring cash, because this fine establish doesn't want your credit card! A few blocks off the Oceanside LIRR station, and right next to a junk yard, Barrier is a diamond in the rough. There will usually be a phenomenal food truck on premise to pair with their vast array of beers. Their Money IPA is probably the best IPA brewed on Long Island, and their deep portfolio will ensure there is something tasty to drink when you stop in. The tap room is small, but I've definitely been in smaller. The staff were always courteous and the prices were incredibly fair. Servings range from sample pours all the way to growler fills, and at rock bottom prices compared to other spots. While it may not be the easiest place to drive to in Long Island, it would be a disservice to your taste buds not to...
