European Republic — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

Rarely does my family agree on anything other than how wonderful Mom's (my) cooking is, the Federal reparations to all those who were cheated out of their share of God's bounty, and the joy a child's smile brings. Now, we will add one more thing we agree on and that is . . . European Republic (ER)! We discovered this eatery recently. We are health nuts with self-destructively critical taste buds. So if we praise ER, it stands for more than five stars. As vegetarians, we don't always find great food in the area other than pizza and sandwiches. ER offers many healthy choices for us. The service is excellent and food delish. They are king of rice and falafel. We ordered falafel and spiced falafel wrap. We will continue to patronize this place and try out all their vegetarian dishes. You get value for your money....

Don't be fooled by the nondescript exterior, this unassuming eatery is a hidden gem.

Food is always ready for pick up within twenty minutes of the order. I am a vegetarian, and after two years of ordering consistently from them, I have yet to tire of the falafel over rice ( with extra white and red sauce).

Yesterday I added the Sweet Potato Ginger Soup and a slice of carrot cake. Delicious, freshly-prepared, true to its cultural roots, well-priced and a wide selection that should please any palate; their staff is always warm and friendly. A cafe nearby (which I also enjoy) charges double for their carrot cake, which may be as good, but certainly not better.

I want to start by saying I’ve only had the halal and only had food from here once.. I’m BIG on halal, it’s probably my favorite food. This halal, was VERY average street cart taste/quality halal and I was definitely expecting more from a store front location. I would send it to hamza Madinas store front location in Hempstead if you really want GOOD halal. The interior definitely lacks an atmosphere I see this place as more of a grub hub/takeout kinda situation. That being said, there was nothing wrong with my food outside of my higher standards for halal and I haven’t tried anything else on the menu so I won’t go any lower than 3 with the review and maybe I’ll try something else next time so I can update this.
