Chateau coffee shop — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

This small old school coffee shop by the LIRR had really great fresh food and service and they kept it clean years ago when Sandy and Larry were there. I also was there when a guy named Jimmy was in charge after Sandy and Larry moved. He was also great, on top of everything, a hard worker and a delicious dinner cook. All the staff were hard workers, very nice, and gave great fast service. I don't go often but do every now and then for many years. I recently went the beginning of September and discovered Jimmy no longer there and they had a lot of new staff and not all were too friendly. They food taste a bit different not as good or fresh as in the past, but still pretty good! Prices are higher but everywhere they raised prices also. It seems you get less food than before. Its disappointing that they no longer serve dinner or have outside seating but since it cost more to do that they couldnt anymore. They should get a new grill since one there is very old and worn out. Also I suggest they not throw or put the dirty rags they clean with by the people who sit at the counter. Overall a nice place with regulars who keep coming back...

This is the Home of the Mish, a chopped salad that you can customize. It’s my wife’s favorite. I prefer a good chicken salad sandwich, but before I order I always ask what kind of Mayo they use. Because if they’re using admiration, Robertson’s or Ken’s I’ll order something else. In a pinch of slow Kraft but never Miracle Whip. When they said they used Hellmann’s I was impressed. Hellmann’s is the most expensive Mayo you can buy so if they’re using it then quality is more important to them than profit. The chicken salad was perfect! Exactly the way I’d make it home. Chicken breast, chopped celery, Mayo and a touch of S&P. So good!! Service was attentive and efficient, prices are more than reasonable and a choice of indoor or outdoor. The ambience is a LIRR station coffee shop so don’t expect tablecloths and flowers on the table. Just know you’ll get great tasting fresh...

The salads are not that great. They are overpriced, and the pita is not included. They will ask if you if you would like pita and not even tell you there is an upcharge for it. The staff are very rude and at one point I came here with a friend and when we asked for a box to go, the staff refused and gave us a cup instead for her salad. She complained that it wasn't enough room and the waitress stuffed it in the cup for her with the pita. This place is awful. If I could give this place zero...
