I wanted to give this establishment 5 stars so bad but I really couldn't find it in my heart to do so. I was pregnant and searching for a location for my baby shower. When a friend of mine initially told me about this restaurant, I was ecstatic! I am Haitian American born on Long Island. It is a struggle to find really good Haitian food without travelling all the way to Queens or Brooklyn. I thought it was a great idea to incorporate my culture with this baby shower. I went to check out the place with my mother. I met Leslie the owner who was really nice. We signed the contract immediately. He was very accommodating even when I had to switch the date of the shower for religious reasons. My mother and I dined there on a separate occasion just to taste the food and get a feel of the ambiance on a Friday night. We loved it. The food was cooked well and we were full! The waitress was real sweet and everything. So now the day of the shower is here and I am so excited! For starters, Leslie stated that he had a projector that he often lets his clients use to do slideshows. What a great feature I thought. So I had a great family friend of mine make a slideshow for our shower. I was getting calls on my way to the shower that there was no projector and that they did not know we would use one as it was "stated on the contract". He offered lighting that when my mother and I did the initial walk through. He said he turns on the switch and it gives guests a nice ambiance. When I got there, I asked Leslie's brother if he can turn on the lights and he told me that he does not know how to do that and that his brother is the only one with the controls and that the lights were not stated on the contract. Apparently Leslie was not there and would be there much later. Why are you offering services and then not coming through with what you promised us. When Leslie arrived I was thankful because he was this nice man that walked us around and made us feel like his restaurant was home. His demeanor was cold. He came with the projector so I did not care how he felt at that time. Especially because I am at this point 37 weeks pregnant and would like to sit and enjoy my shower. People were now approaching me saying the waiters were very rude to them when they ask for basic services such as pitchers of water to their table. Don't get me started on what happened when the food arrived! They had a ton of food. I paid good money for this event. I expected my guest to have a great time as my mother and I did when we came to dine there. They were so CHEAP with the servings. They were literally serving adults toddler sized portions. The spoons weren't even full. They were literally dropping like 3 pastas on a plate and 1 pork shoulder (Griot) on each plate. When people were asking for more you would have thought you were asking them to sacrifice their first born son. I was embarassed as I had guest that were not Haitian there and that was not a good representation of how we do things! My mother was appalled. She is a woman that cooks very well. Although the food was still really good the servings they gave people were as if they were rationing food. We are not in war times and we are not currently under a communistic regime. Fill my plate! I work very hard and I expected my money's worth. My mother overheard one of the workers bad mouthing the owner and saying that they want the restaurant to go under so they are purposely unprofessional and cheap with the food. If that is truly the case, I feel bad for the owner because his employees were truly unprofessional and down right disgusting. They had the nastiest attitudes and would often ignore the request of my guests. Had I not been overly pregnant and needing to sit, I would have definitely gotten up to say something. I should not have to feel this way about one of the happiest times of my life. If you dont believe me, pay for a catered event there and then reply back to this message when they treat you like you are nothing. I won't give up on my Haitian people and will find another...
Read moreAfter going to this restaurant, i have no other choice but to believe that the 5 star reviews were written by family or friends of the owner. The food was not good enough to warrant the service we received (date of visit-6/17). The first problem we had (family reservation of 6) was that the individual we presume to be the owner told us that the price was $25 dollars per person when we came up to pay, rather than the $20 dollars that they explicitly stated on their website. If there was a specific reason as to the difference, it was not relayed to us when we set the reservation not on any website or other communication. Secondly, despite excepting our reservation at 1pm, the food was not ready until over half an hour later. The food was more or less well cooked, however they had EXACTLY two varieties of meats for the duration of our two hour stay, two kinds of rice, and macaroni and cheese. It absolutely wasn't the kind of variety of Haitian food that they advertise on their website or that one would expect to pay so much for. Lastly, a piece of band equipment (a large pole) fell on my grandfather! And the owner was nowhere to be seen, and did not stop by to make sure everything was okay. I could go on a longer list, of issues we encountered (lack of drink variety, lack of desert variety, court staff) but any reader would get the gist. However, the Band was AMAZING and I apologize for them that I'm leaving such a bad review, I hope they find a restaurant that truly matches...
Read moreThis is a Haitian owned resturant which I would have loved to have the pleasure of dining in but they lack organisation especially when it comes to reservation. I took my mother out for Mother's Day and had made a reservation 2 weeks ago. My mom had been dying to go there and it's a 45 min drive from our place so I wanted to be sure everything went perfect.... Boy was I wrong! Their parking lot is pretty small and as expected was pretty crowded for Mother's Day. It took us 30 minutes of circling around before we got lucky. We walk in...Haitian music is playing... You can see the energy is fantastic and I'm looking forward to a great brunch............ I spoke to soon. THEY LOST OUR RESERVATION! They were searching for it (mind you it was on a written sheet of paper) and they couldn't find our names! I was pretty pissed. To top it off they said sorry they were beyond capacity and couldn't seat us! Are you kidding me? You LOST our reservation and we drove 45 min for disappointment? My advice make sure you get the name of who took your reservation since everything is written on paper and you don't know where they place these papers. Don't get lost...
