Nunzi's American Bistro — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

I’ve been here a couple of times, nothing to write home about. Until the Sunday before Labor Day. As soon as we got there (around 11pm) we overhead last call for food so we were supposed to order in the next 20 minutes. Great! cause we were looking for a couple of snacks. We asked the bartender for food, she said kitchen is closed. We were like “you just said order in the next 20 minutes before kitchen closes” and then she was like you know what I wasn’t even supposed to work tonight. She seemed frustrated. At that point I got up cause we needed food and a drink. I’m not staying for just drinks. My boyfriend told her but you just said we got 20 min to order. She said something like “let me go ask the cook if he can miss his bus”. What??? We were shocked. Who says that kind of thing? First of all telling me you shouldn’t even be working tonight? That’s none of my business and has nothing to do with what I’m asking. Second, we clearly heard you say that the kitchen is closing in 20 minutes. And third, why are you guilt tripping me about the cook missing his bus if he stays and makes some food for us.

Awful experience. That one bartender definitely doesn’t belong in this industry. Some of the others bartender there are great.

I ended up going to another place where they didn’t give me an attitude and actually want my business.

I am always hesitant to go out to a Bar/ Restaurant as I don't drink any type of alcohol. A coworker recommend this place and I live in the community for almost 20 years so I decided to go. My experience in life leads me to know most alcohol drinkers while drinking lose their better judgement. I will say that the food here is above average and my liquor loving friend was not wrong. I won't be back though as I believe that the fact that my wife and I are not drinkers was the reason we where provided with less service than the other customers around us. I noticed bread baskets at the tables around us but we did not receive one. No one ever stopped by to give us water refills. The food we had was good and I expected to have dessert but decided that I would wait till the server would mention if we would like desert and coffee. Well I am still waiting to be asked. I will stick to restaurants and leave the bar/ food places to drinkers as I believe this place wants customers that will provide bigger profit margins via...

So we walk in and there’s one table occupied and 2 customers at the bar. The only staff member in the front comes and takes us to a table. After ordering the one waitress/bartender/hostess brings us clams instead of oysters we ordered. She apologized and was nice about the error. The main dishes came out, my chicken parm was bleh. Pasta overcooked and mushy. Chicken was bleh at best. My girlfriend’s skirt steak was mushy and looked like baby food. My diet cokes were terrible, like they were out of syrup. My girlfriend’s 2 sangrias were very different the first full of fruit and good, the second no fruit and was a different color. After clearing our plates and asking us if we wanted any dessert or coffee tea etc, and us declining it took 20 mins to get the check. We were just sitting at the table with empty drinks and waiting as she walked past us (the only table left now) a dozen times. The waitress was nice and kind but absolutely could use some training.
