1st visit was during the beginning of their soft opening. Asked about the regular coffee and cappuccino. The prices stated were $5 for a coffee and $6-7 for a cappuccino. I did not purchase any items given the price being excessive.
The 2nd visit was July 4th, 2024. The price for a large 16oz drip coffee was reduced to a reasonable $3.15. That's at least competitive with 7-11 across the street. Adding a credit card processing fee of 4% on top of the $3.15 + 8.63% tax is not acceptable. The 4% fee seems to be calculated on the sum of the $3.15 + $0.2718. Credit card processing is a function of operating a business and a business expense that gets subtracted from a business's revenue. Customers don't expense credit card processing fees on their tax returns. Pandemics don't justify offloading credit card processing fees to customers and continuing that practice after. This fee is one reason not to purchase from businesses that add this fee. Requesting a tip for counter/takeout service is the other; at least that can be declined. Supplementing worker wages through customers via tips at the counter is poor business. Compensate your employees for their work and expense it on your balance sheet and taxes. Managing your business's P/L is part of operating a successful business.
As for the coffee with milk ordered, the coffee was more milky in terms of taste. That's a weak coffee drowned out with milk. A coffee cafe should be able to prepare an excellent basic coffee. Given that this was a one-time experience, they may be better with their quality. I will very likely not be visiting again. I would have tried the cappuccino if the basic coffee was reasonably prepared. The initial reservation on the cappuccino was the lower end espresso machine.
3rd & 4th visits: single large coffee without milks - black. The coffee was fair; it had a bit of a burnt finish. Check the temperature and timing of your drip coffee machine. I would get coffee again as it is close by. CC fee has not changed.
I inquired about the products they sell, like the muffins, donuts, and ice cream. Given the small area of the cafe, much can not be freshly made there. It would be nice to get fresh locally made bakery items to distinguish the cafe from other places.
The order line can get quite long at times, especially in...

Read moreI am not sure how NY Caffeine is not getting more attention. I visited this cafe for the first time today, and I must say it is pretty impressive. This coffee shop is decorated in wood and earthy tones while giving off the vibe of a beach club cabana. They serve quality coffees, teas, and drinks in clear soda cans, which I found pretty neat. Prices are less expensive than starbucks and the drinks are made with better quality ingredients, which I could tell from taste alone. My friend and I ordered the Iced Vanilla Chai Latte and White Chocolate Frappe, both of which tasted amazing with just the right amount of sweetness. They also make fresh crepes and italian desserts with a bunch of popular toppings.
The staff is young and friendly. They were serving people with a smile and joking around with customers. There is seating inside and outside, but I preferred sitting on those big comfy couches inside near the window. The cafe is clean but can use a light dusting in some areas. They also have their own parking lot so parking should not be an issue.
This cafe looks like a crown jewel in a dull neighborhood. It's something Franklin Square really needed, and I am happy it is finally here. I will definetly be visiting again...
