Sunflower Bake Shop — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

I was looking to buy a dairy free cake for someone I work with and I stumbled upon the Sunflower Bake Shop in West Hempstead. I consulted with Elana, the owner of the shop and we went over the type of cake I was looking for and the dietary needs of the person the cake was for. Elana was very patient and listened to all my concerns. She is such a lovely person and is very warm. Her husband is very kind as well and was very helpful as I placed the order. When I came to pick up the cake, the cake was decorated beautifully. Before I left, Elana had me sample a challah roll that she baked. The roll was vegan and sugar free. I am not a vegan but I have to say that this roll was amazing! It did not taste like anything was missing from it. The outside was crusty yet had a soft and pillowy center. It was absolutely delightful! The next day we cut the cake at work and everybody was ranting and raving about how delicious the cake was! You would never know that the cake was dairy free. I recently received a vegan 12 inch red velvet cake and a small vegan cheese cake for my solar return and let me start with the cheese cake. It was delicious and sharp it had a custard like texture and tasted really good. I really enjoyed the crust as well. Now, the red velvet was soooo delicious. You can't tell it's vegan. It's so decadent and moist and perfectly well balanced the frosting was too sweet for me so after a few bites I just went for the cake without it but even alone it did not disappoint. Had an amazing time there as the owner is so personable and aims to have a “small cafe in Connecticut kind of feel” which I definitely got. She really works to personalize your orders and is willing to try new recipes. I got the chocolate chip and strawberry cheesecake, apple cinnamon muffins, chocolate cupcakes, chocolate mousse, chocolate chip cookies , double chocolate cookies, and bloodies which all tasted incredible!
