When my friends and I first came to the escape room, we were super excited to do the Forbidden Forest theme. However, as it progressed, there were puzzles that we could’ve solved only if the puzzles themselves were working. For instance, the wooden clock in the room was not working when my friends figured out the answer. So we weren’t sure if we were even correct. We had called the game master using a clue and the answer was what we had put. To make matters worse, we saw him unplugging something and took time from us to fix the wooden clock. That is when another puzzle opened.
There were instances also that we were not able to do the puzzles in sequence. For example, there was a monkey and a string. I happened to pull the string because I didn’t know what it was. The monkey started sliding down along the string. That was not supposed to happen according to the game master.
In conclusion, we were able to solve the room skipping multiple puzzles and doing them in different orders because we were able to get the code at the end somehow! We basically paid the game master to solve most of the puzzles for us. It doesn’t help that there was no TV also. We communicated through the walkie talkie only to find out that it wasn’t working properly and it gets cut off. This left the game master no choice but to go inside our room and solve the puzzles when we asked for hints. This happened many times as the game master kept coming in and out of the room. Lastly, decorations in the room were confusing, like who sees a bird fountain in the forest?
It was very sad because seeing a lot of the 5 stars reviews about this place made us very excited in the beginning but...
Read moreI was looking for a memorable place to propose to my boyfriend of 10 years. It needed to be on Valentine's Day. And of course, I wanted to be excited rather than stressed about it. In the New York area, that's a tall order. I had planned on hunting for different venues, and EPIC ESCAPES was the first one on my list to check out because of the positive reviews I found online.
The minute I walked into EPIC, Cat Dunn (owner) welcomed me warmly and instantly made me feel like she was a close friend who was excited about planning the whole event with me. After 30 minutes of speaking with her (really only after 5 of those 30 minutes) I was sold. I knew she was the person I wanted to trust with my big day. She took it on like it was HER big day, and she wanted everything to go right.
Our family and friends flew in from around the country, she instantly handled ALL personality types with Grace and fun, even the difficult members of our group, and kept the vibe light and stress-free.
They all participated in the escape room while I hid in the party room that she has available for groups. Everyone had a BLAST in the escape room, and came out to me with my bouquet, ready to drop on one knee for my boyfriend when he walked out. (He said yes, btw) The rest of the evening Cat continued to serve us and make sure everyone had an amazing time. So grateful. She helped make the evening perfect!
I cannot recommend this business highly enough. If you are looking for fun and security knowing you are in good hands (tough to find in the New York area) then please consider EPIC ESCAPES and make sure to ask for Cat. You will be SO...
Read moreHi, this is the second time my wife and I came to your escape room. We always try to give the benefit of the doubt but this was really bad. We were disappointed the first time when we came years ago, but we thought maybe it would improve and we'd give it another try. We go to escape rooms all over and we are extremely disappointed with your rooms. First of all, I get that covid restricts the amount of people and that you are accommodating private rooms, but we had to pay for 3 people even though we were 2 and it was not worth the price of just us; let alone to pay extra. Secondly the riddles were lazy and disorganized. The entire room feels cheap and rushed. For example we were told one of the solutions (which we solved anyway) we "basically have to guess" (that's a direct quote from one of the staff). We like red herrings to throw us off, but there was little continuity and connection between any of the clues. The props were so cheap and embarrassing and the production was embarrassing, the room was tiny. The staff was nice, but the experience with them had little to do with the shabby process. Basically, we do not know how your establishment has 4.8 on Google reviews because for an escape room enthusiast it was embarrassing to be there. Maybe for first timers it's ok because it introduces you to escape rooms, but I would not recommend this place to anyone personally. I'd recommend the escape room in massapequa as the best rooms on long island (better than ones in NYC). Even more annoying (but only for us) is that we live so close by and would have loved this place if it was...
