Long Island Wine DadLong Island Wine Dad
From liwinedad.blogspot.com An excellent hardy meal at a local place Thom Thom Steak & Seafood, in Wantagh, Long Island, NY. The service is friendly, and the food consistently good with some excellent unique dishes. Overall, this visit came in at a solid four stars. Jo and I started with our traditional cocktails of a Cosmopolitan and Woodford reserve on the rocks. The breadbasket is a bit different, composed of Pita bread wedges, hummus, and tzatziki. Jo, for her starter, had the Bang Bang Shrimp, which consisted of a generous portion of crispy fried shrimp in a mild chili sauce complimented with a Gorgonzola dip on the side. It was a fine opener. I opened with a more traditional starter, the Loaded Wedge Salad. The salad consisted of ½ head (quartered)of very fresh Iceberg lettuce. The wedge arrived table side covered in Gorgonzola cheese crumbles, lots of crispy maple bacon, red onion, sweet yellow peppers with a good helping of blue cheese dressing. The ingredients balance each other perfectly, and this easily could have been for two. For the main, Jo went with the traditional Twin Lobster tails (nice size) that came plated with baby bok choy and delicious mushroom risotto. I opted for one of the chef's specials, the Roasted Crispy Pork. The serve gave me a head up that this was, in fact, a roasted pig knuckle that tends to be a bit fatty. As this was one of my mother's go-to dishes, my expectations were set, and it did not disappoint. The Pork arrived crispy sitting in a shallow bowl of a mild fennel broth, really remarkable good. The menu list side of Purple Cabbage and apple Kraut but the apple kraut never arrived. The purple cabbage was plain but good. I might suggest that it be prepared with vinegar that would complement the high-fat content of the Pork better. We had plenty for take home, so we skipped the deserts, and I ended the dinner with a fine double expresso, and Jo finished her cocktail. Overall this was a fine dining experience; I look forward to returning and hope the keep the crispy roast pork on the menu.

Where should I start... Three people in our party ordered an entree that had steak. Two requested medium well and the third requested medium. When the steaks came out they were all well done. I only eat my steak well done and even I thought it was too well done. The two people in our party that wanted medium well, sent their steaks back. When the food came back out they were both medium. One of the medium well steak eaters tried it and didn't like it so he gave it to his sister. To make up for the third steak being well done, which wasn't sent back, the waitress bought his drink. She is the only reason I am giving two stars instead of one. I ordered the salmon and it was dry. We unanimously agreed not to return to this establishment.

They decided to have my 1yr old Daughters high chair at the table closet to the front door with below freezing temperatures winds blowing in her face. They knew in advance about the high hair since it was requested on OpenTable and I called to confirm. The meatball on the sampler was mush and should not be considered a meatball. Horrible. The sushi was horrible and my wife didn’t eat it since it was completely smothered in sauce. The Chilean sea bass was great with the risotto. We also had to go through this with a crowd of people up against our table watching us the entire time since they are all waiting for a table. Not worth the money and was very disappointed. I had high hopes for this place.

I’m giving this review one star ONLY because the food was amazing, but unfortunately, this was the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had.

My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine’s Day. I made an 8:00 PM reservation about a week in advance. In hindsight, it should’ve been a red flag that every time slot was still available on OpenTable. Given that it was Valentine’s Day, I fully expected the restaurant to be busy—but this was next level.

I arrived at 7:54 PM, and there were already at least 20 people ahead of me, all waiting to check in for their “8:00” reservation, with about 20 more arriving after me. After waiting in line for 10 minutes just to check in, the hostess told me it would be an additional 15–20 minutes. She sent us over to the bar and told me to keep an eye on my phone for a call when our table was ready.

Well, 9:15 PM rolls around—still no call. Meanwhile, people who arrived after us were getting seated. My boyfriend finally went to ask when we’d be sat, and it seemed like they had forgotten about us because they immediately rushed to seat us. Not that it helped much—no one came to take our order until 10:00 PM. They also didn’t give us menus, so we couldn’t even decide what we wanted in the meantime. At this point, we had been there for two hours without a single bite of food.

Eventually, our appetizers came out at 10:30, and our steaks around 11:00. Everything was absolutely delicious—the one redeeming quality of the night. By dessert, we were both going stir-crazy and just wanted to leave, so we asked for our desserts to-go. Guess how long that took? Nearly an hour.

While waiting, I looked around at the other tables. No one looked happy. Some tables seated shortly after us still hadn’t even gotten bread. It seemed like the only thing management had to offer upset customers was free drinks—which does nothing for those of us who don’t drink.

When we finally got our desserts, we had paid for two but only received one. At that point, we didn’t even bother saying anything because we didn’t want to wait another hour. We didn’t leave the restaurant until almost midnight—after an 8:00 PM reservation. When we walked out, people were still waiting for their dinners.

Final verdict: The food was amazing, but this restaurant is terribly run. They clearly cannot handle large crowds and need to limit reservations on holidays. There were way too many people and far too little staff. I was excited for a nice, romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, and unfortunately, Thom Thom did not deliver—literally or...

Where do I begin, I live up the Block and always come to eat at thom thom, I made Reservations for valentine's day, about a month ago, I understand it was so busy But whats the point making Reservations and you still have to wait 20 minutes,

Then put the icing on the cake when me and my boyfriend got seated, it took the waiter 30 minutes to take our order. It took over an hour for our food to come out on top of that my order was wrong, I had to wait another 30 minutes for my Mac and chesse to come out, which I oder with my meal from the beginning, My boyfriend and I couldn't eat together because my order was way wrong, his food was correct, But my order was wrong he was waiting for to get my food corrected so we can eat together.

By the time I got my correct order his food was cold it was just a messed, And trust me we wasn't the only one's complaining, It was multiple people complaining about the customer service's. I couldn't enjoy my food and my time out with my boyfriend because it was a MESS!!! At the end we got the check they over charge us for the MAC and Cheese.

I realized and I bought it to our waiter attention, He did apologize I just got so frustrated at that point. I just told him just replaced with a dessert to go. They bought out the wrong dessert. I had to wait 20 minutes for the correct dessert to come out.

Me and my boyfriend couldn't catch a break 😪 with this horrible experience especially on a special occasion. We would've been better off going to Manhattan. At least we would've had great customer service!!! They...
