Tulip Bagels — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

First off, very good prices! Buy 6 bagels, get 1 free is a solid deal as it comes out to just under $10 for 7. I got there around 9:35 am and the line moved pretty quickly. Efficient, nice staff and smooth checkout process.

Now onto the goods. While most places tend to serve medium (or small) sized bagels, Tulip comes through with the LARGE! These things are thiccc with 3 c's. They're a little inconsistent with freshness as a couple of older bagels got mixed with fresher ones in my order but you'll likely get more good than "bad" ones. How do they taste though? Awesome! Soft interior with a well defined crispy exterior. I warmed mine in the oven and I did find the crispy edges to be a bit tougher to bite through. Personal preference I know, but it was noticeable to me. The interior doesn't get soggy though and the bagel on a whole has a great chew to it. It doesn't get crumbly like lesser bagels do. Stood online with only one other customer in the store early, Saturday morning. I stood there for at least 3-4 mins before the girl behind the counter asked “Are you being helped?”. Umm, helped? I wasn’t even acknowledged. I suppose that’s the standard greeting at this establishment. All the employees were busy talking to each other and preparing delivery orders I suppose. I get my order home, and the bacon on the bacon egg and cheese on a bagel, was ALL fat. Inedible, I’d say 98% fat...i had to take it off and throw away. It was disgustingly bad and I don’t understand how the person making the sandwich thought it was ok to put a glob of pure fat in the sandwich and please a customer. The bagel itself was ok. Sort of bland, nothing special, but not terrible. Next time I have a hankering for bagels I will take the extra 5 mins or so, to go to the one on Hillside off Lakeville, which is a legit spot. This is one of very few occasions that I wish there is an option for more than 5 stars. I ordered some items but was not able to make it to the store before they closed for the day. When I arrived, I saw my two orders (bagged) sitting on their counter. Decided to be there first thing next morning to pick up when they open so the food won't go to waste. When I came in to inquire about the orders, the man told me that my orders were already disposed of. But without even the slightest hesitation, he packed another set of orders for my replacement. As he (business) didn't do anything wrong, but still went out of his way to help makes all the difference. These personable businesses and shops are such a stable of quality life.
