Ella’s Taverna is located directly next door to the Paramount Theatre, and that is about all that is good with it. The picture in this review is of “Lasagna Pinwheels”, a $28 entrée that should really be a $5 appetizer, and a poor one at that. These “pinwheels” are tiny, cut up pieces of a lasagna noodle, rolled up with plain old ricotta and have some vodka sauce on top. In the picture you can see the water in the ricotta and the sauce has drained out into the bowl so these tiny rolls of noodles are now swimming in a broth reminiscent of what you would serve mussels in. Yes it’s that disgusting. These bite-sized noodles are what you would make for a fun event with your 8-year-old on a snow day when school got cancelled, but from a (pricey!) restaurant it’s just an indicator of poor menu design and execution. This is something I would expect to get out of a can of Chef Boy R Dee. Because of the hard paneling and ceiling and the “bowling alley” shape of the dining area the restaurant gets extremely noisy when it fills up. Even sitting directly across from someone you need to speak loudly, and of course this just accentuates the problem. Some sound absorbing materials would be a nice addition. The red wine had a light pour and came in a (ugh!) tumbler glass – yes those short little glasses that are for water, not wine, and certainly not acceptable when charging $10/glass. This just added more insult to injury. If you’re looking for a restaurant and reading these reviews you know there are a lot of dining choices up and down this road – so definitely take a hard pass on Ella’s. If you are forced to come here with someone else – stick with a simple pizza and plan on drinks and dessert anywhere else down the road.

My husband and I came here from Philly to see a show at Paramount on Sunday. I contacted them through IG to make sure they still have a 20% discount if you show them your ticket to Paramount. They answered almost right away and were very helpful. I made reservations through their website and even changed it to an hour earlier the day before. We came in, was seated right away, and taken care of after a few minutes to read the menu. I asked for drink options and they recommended the "favorites". We ordered a wing appetizer and the Dark Side of the Moon wood fire pizza. The wings were big and crispy, the hot sauce was more vinegar base, but still had a bit of heat. The pizza was definitely big enough for 2, three slices each. I wish the pizza was done a little bit more for crunch, but I definitely wasn't mad about it. 😋 We had a few beers each; Modelo and Blue Moon. The 20% was taken off of our bill, which pretty much gave us a free appetizer and even with a 25% tip we spent less than $100. If we ever go back that way for a show at The Paramount we'd definitely come back!

Excellent food (great flavors) and nice service! My husband and I went in for a little date night dinner and are really glad we decided to finally check out Ella’s. Service: Very friendly and attentive staff. My husband and I were wearing masks as we entered the restaurant. We were guided to a nice table that was a good distance from other guests. We really appreciate them seating us in the least crowded area without us having to say anything! Food: All delicious! I highly recommend trying the nduja, bread, and butter appetizer. The nduja has a nice kick to it but is not overly spicy, nor does the spiciness linger. They brought out A LOT of nduja and butter relative to the bread, so we ended up taking the remainder to go. The fresh pasta was good and the tomato sauce for the parpardelle had a really rich flavor.

Possibly unpopular opinion (given all the 4 and 5 star reviews), but there is a real discrepancy/inconsistency with menu item prices at Ella's, hence the three stars.

I'll start with the good/great - pizzas were spot on as was the chicken parm (which comes out plated and sliced like a pizza, except the chicken is the crust!). There are a lot of options to choose from and the combinations were an artisanal cut above your standard pizza joint. I'd have liked to see a buffalo or BBQ chicken personally but am not going to ding them for that as there were at least 10 varieties.

There's an awesome woodsy smell that'll whisk you right into that ski lodge vibe, serving also as a reminder that all the pizzas (and some other menu options) are tastefully wood-fired. Bonus points for a creative selection of cocktails and a visual "rubric" so you get quick notes on each drink (e.g. main liquor, boozy, sweet, etc). Location can't be beat either, especially if you're catching a show at the Paramount, which is literally next door!

My main critique is that portion to price ratio is way out of whack for some items. Particularly, the pinwheel lasagna (6 measly bites for $30) and the wings (6 segments - not full wings - for $17). Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable in suggesting things for us to try, but after it all, your best bang for the buck is definitely with their awesome pizzas -...

I really really wanted to like Ella’s. This is my second time there. I went in the summer of 2021 with my friend and the pizza was great. This past weekend we went on a Friday. The noise was so loud I couldn’t even hear my friend talk. The drinks were delicious but on the glasses they were served in were small and the drinks were $15 each. We ordered the calamari to start, my friend ordered pizza, and I ordered the salmon. The calamari came and was good. Then my friends pizza came. No sign of my salmon 20 mins later. I ate some of my friends pizza because I was starving and it was really good. My friend is in the restaurant industry and asked the waiter about my salmon and he said he put no food in for me. So we had him put them salmon in. When I got the salmon it was borderline inedible. It was burnt and charred and tasted terrible. The risotto underneath the salmon was watery and I couldn’t eat it. I think they rushed since the salmon was never put in to begin with. I went home hungry. I’m only ordering the pizza there from now on ! For an $140 bill the food should at...
