I invited two local firefighters for breakfast, eager to introduce them to a deli known for its great sandwiches. I requested a “Hungry Man,” but the front counter staff informed me they only serve specific breakfast sandwiches listed on the menu, such as the BEC, SEC, or HEC. When I asked if they could add extra meat to a sandwich, the same staff member reiterated that only the standard options were available. Needing a moment to decide, I was approached by another employee from the back who said adding sausage and ham to a regular BEC was no issue. However, minutes later, the first employee returned, restated that they don’t offer the Hungry Man, and said he’d make an exception “just this once” as a favor. I wasn’t looking for a handout—I was ready to pay, even extra, for the order. Frustrated by the implication, I canceled the order and left. That deli lost my business and likely the firefighters’ too. I ended up at Bright Bay Deli, where they prepared my Hungry Man...

I’m so glad Leggio’s is back! This deli is a true Bay Shore staple, and walking in felt like stepping back into the best parts of the past. When I was a kid, my grandfather used to bring me here all the time—this was his go-to spot, and now I see why. Coming back as an adult and seeing it open again really brought back some great memories.

The sandwiches are just as incredible as I remember—stacked high, full of flavor, and made with care. I got one of their Italian-style heroes, and it was absolutely perfect. The guys behind the counter were super friendly, and you can tell they really take pride in what they do.
