Visited Metros on Main in Sayville with my wife, tonight. Decided to try it at the recommendation of a friend who has visited, previously.
The restaurant (the old Sayville Pizza) has gotten a facelift with shiplap wood planks on the walls, new flooring and other nice visual features. There were 3 TV monitors playing - none that were carrying local sports events. Looks like they are only streaming to the TVs which would explain the absence of local sports programs. There was a vocalist playing a guitar in one corner of the restaurant which was a nice touch.
We were greeted and seated by our server Chloe. She was pleasant and welcoming. My wife ordered an Aperol Spritz and I ordered a Blue Point Hoptical Illusion. I also ordered a seltzer. My wife’s drink came and it was too sweet. She returned it and the bartender fixed it. My beer came and while I didn’t think it was the beer I ordered, I started to drink it. I drank about a third of the beer before I questioned Chloe about what beer she had served me. She realized that she had indeed served me the wrong beer (a Peroni) and I asked her to swap it out for the correct beer. During the course of my meal I asked for two refills of my seltzer.
Our food arrived (calamari and dumplings as an appetizer) and two chicken dishes as entrees. The presentation was good and the quality was also very good (with a reasonable portion size).
Our bill came and I noticed that I was charged for both beers and for three seltzers. I questioned Chloe about why I was charged for two beers when it was the bar’s error and because I only drank a small amount of the serving. Chloe said she was told to charge us for both beers but would take one off if we wanted her to. We asked her to do so.
Overall this was an ok experience (thus the three stars). However, the experience with charging me for an item that they served in error AND charging $3.25 each for multiple seltzers (which cost pennies at most) did not impress us. Most quality restaurants will not charge for seltzer if a drink is also ordered (and if they do, it’s uncommon to charge for refills). We ordered appetizers, entrees and bar beverages. We weren’t looking to skimp on what we spent… not sure why Metro would choose to “Penny pinch” on their end.
Difficult to say if we’ll come back. The food was good, but the experience with service delivery was not impressive. We try to visit local places and look for places that embrace their customers. Tonight’s experience fell short in...
Read moreI come in and there’s a kid at the counter. I ask what this small item was looked like a hot pocket about half the size like an over sized stuffed garlic knot. He even looked shocked an laughed about it. I then say ok how about a pepperoni slice he proceeds to take an old half slice of pizza and put pepperoni on it… mind u the only regular slice left on the counter that looked 5 days old. I said no I’m gonna go that’s not even a full slice it’s half a slice the kid again laughs and says I know bro. I walked out. What happened to this place when it was Sayville pizza?!?! Used to be amazing food. The counter shrunk to a quarter of the size. Ice cold in the building and horrible food and over priced. Never again. Bring back the old owners!!!!!!!!!this place was an icon of sayville for over...
Read moreTerrible experience. Went here for the first time today and waited 40 minutes in an empty restaurant without ever receiving our food. Either the waitress forgot to put the order in or the kitchen missed the ticket. Mistakes happen, I understand that, having worked in the industry for 25 years, but after 15–20 minutes the waitress should have checked with the kitchen and realized something was wrong.
What made it worse is that if I hadn’t asked about our food, she never would have come over. Only then did she apologize, and it was far from the kind of proactive apology the situation required. At a minimum, she should have offered to comp the bill or at least one of the meals.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience and a shocking level of incompetence for a place with such great reviews. It couldn’t have been...
