I'm a little upset with this places food. I was at BJ's about 5 minutes away on a Saturday night at around 7pm and decided to pick up 2 sushi dinners for my wife and I to surprise her. I got sashimi deluxe and she got a 3 roll dinner (2 spicy salmon w/ avocado and crunchies and a salmon avocado roll). I went in to pick up the food and the place was empty on a Saturday Night at 7:30 pm. I mean empty, no one in the store at all. I wanted to just walk out and leave the food because I thought it was odd, but $42 later I went home with the food. The food definitely wasn't fresh as there was some white tuna in my meal that smelt very bad and the yellow tail smelt very bad. This was after I ate the tuna and 2 pieces of salmon which I then realized "I shouldn't eat this". My wife at 2 pieces of the roll and said, "is this good???" I immediately threw it all out. I didn't call the place, I probably should have but I really didn't even want to think about it anymore. I am rating it a 2 star instead of 1 star because my wife and I did not throw up or get food poisoning. That's the only positive out of...
Read moreI have been coming here for sushi for over 15 years and have gotten to know all three owners. Maggie, the current owner, has been there for over 4 years and has made the place better than ever. The atmosphere has improved with great background music, dimmer lights, and a pretty ambiance, and she has updated and changed the menu.
I am particular about my sushi and prefer a place that is busy enough to ensure fresh fish. Maggie's restaurant is always busy, and for good reason—the food is delicious! If you want something made to order, they'll happily accommodate you.
Maggie is one of the sweetest people I know. I often see guests greeting her by name and, like my son and I, giving her a big hug before saying goodbye.
I highly recommend trying this place. Everything on the menu is delicious, but my favorites are the tuna tacos (which can also be ordered with salmon) and any roll with...
Read moreSakura is a hidden gem and hands down my favorite sushi spot in the Hauppauge/Smithtown area. It’s a small, family owned restaurant, and Maggie and her husband go above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome. They’re always so kind and attentive, which adds a personal touch you don’t often find.
The food here is incredible. Every dish is packed with flavor and always fresh. My absolute favorite is the shumai soup it’s my go to comfort food. Their torched rolls are consistently amazing, and when I’m looking for something on the lighter side, the diet roll is a great low-carb option.
Also worth mentioning: the fried rice is generous and perfect for sharing, and the crab salad is a must-try so refreshing and flavorful. I come here for the quality of the food. If you’re in the area and love sushi, Sakura...
