Chen's Garden — Restaurant in Town of Milo

This is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. There is no web presence that provides necessary information. So the fact that they are cash only isn't info that is available until after you have ordered and you walked in the door. Our order was placed via phone, and the woman was barely able to understand what we wanted.

We were told it would be ready in 35 minutes. I walked in the door 30 minutes later, waited at the counter for 10 minutes before I was even acknowledged, then told they couldn't find my order. Back to the truck to get my phone, call the person that called in the order, then back inside to provide the info. 10 more minutes waiting at the counter. She then told me that my order would be ready in 10-15 minutes and asks for the money. I tell her that I will pay when I get the food.

At this point its been about 50 minutes since the order was placed, so their estimate of 35 minutes was way off. I sit down and wait, I talk to a couple of others that had been there longer than me, one guy had been waiting 45 minutes already. An additional 30 minutes goes by. She puts a bag of food on the counter and says my order is ready. I go and pay, text the family that I finally got food, but then she gives the bag to some one else. It wasn't my order, my food still isn't done. It's ready she says, as I watch them take the food off the flame and start to dish it out. I can see that it's not ready, 5 more minutes before I get handed my food.

Order called in at 6 PM. I had food in my hands at 7:35 AND IT WAS AWEFUL. The service was bad, the food was bad, and they are still in the 1980's and not taking debit. Why would I ever go back.

Chen's Garden has been my favorite go-to for 9 years. The last 4 orders since Jan 2021, I've been disappointed. I chalked it up to COVID the first time, but after my order last night, I'm not able to find an excuse. They may be under new management. The Happy Family $15.54 (Scallop, shrimp, chicken, beef, roast pork and vegetables = one shrimp, NO scallop, two good size chunks of chicken and two pieces of either beef or pork. Almost all vegetable and sauce. The scallop in garlic sauce $15) = only 3 scallops in a quart serving, BUT they cut them in half so it looks like more. TONS of broccoli, though. The Family that run this Chinese Restaurant, is by far one of the best in Penn Yan. We are very lucky, and grateful to have this Restaurant in town. Their Food, Customer Service, and Attitudes are all really great to say the least. I would recommend anyone to sample the food here. Ginny is a wonderful, and very kind lady. She always has a pleasant attitude and is always very accommodating. They are the absolute best, and I appreciate everything they always do for me, and my Family.
