The good, the bad, and the ugly. First the good, the appetizers were incredible. Had the risotto balls, burrata, cauliflower, and Brussel sprouts. They were all so good, I'm not sure which I liked better. The place is also incredible. A really great historic renovation of an old mill building. Sat near a wood burning fireplace on a cold day. Great ambiance here. Our main courses were very good. We ordered the smores lava cake for desert. It was just OK. We had a party of 11 on a Sunday night. I'm guessing there were 5 tables full and most of them were parties of 2 or 4. After being seated we waited 20 minutes before I flagged down our waiter for some drinks. I wanted bourbon, he suggested Angel's Envy which I love so I ordered it. We also ordered a $67 bottle of the reserve Cabernet on the waiter's recommendation. Tasted like a $12 bottle of Cabernet. Ordered a $50 bottle of cab, it was just OK. Ordered a pinot, it was just OK and also $67. Ordered a Rhone which was just acceptable. For a "winery" their selection was pretty awful, especially for the prices. The ugly was the time spent here. 3 1/2 hours for dinner. Fortunately we had extended family there so it was nice to catch up, however getting home at 10:00 on a Sunday night is not so great. Then the really ugly part was the bill. Almost $800 when some only had a burger and we split 4 apps between 11 people. I saw they charged me $63 for an Angel's Envy on the rocks. This bottle retails for $50 FOR THE ENTIRE BOTTLE. The waiter explained that it was cask strength which is why it's so expensive. I reminded him that I never ordered cask strength. Not sure how a waiter could offer Angel's Envy and fail to say it was cask strength and $63! Then I noticed TWO $25 corkage fees for their mediocre wine. He explained to me that they charge $25 for each cork that they have to pull. I said that usually a corkage fee is charged when someone brings in their own bottle. He said this is their policy. He offered the manager which I gladly welcomed. She was very apologetic and immediately removed the excess charges and the deserts. This bought the bill to a reasonable level but left me thinking if they do this to everyone hoping they don't look at the bill? I am hoping that our dinner was the exception and that normally this does not happen here. Because I think this is such a spectacular place and the food was great I will be back. Just really off-putting how the waiter handled everything. He was super nice though for what...
Read moreWe couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding venue than City Winery Hudson Valley! We chose the intimate package for our wedding and got married on 10.12.2024. From the moment we first visited, we knew it was the place where we wanted to celebrate our special day. The breathtaking views and stunning industrial architecture provided the ideal backdrop for our ceremony and reception, creating a magical atmosphere that our guests are still raving about! I have to be honest (because I would want to read an honest review also), it did not start off with the best communication from the original person in charge of my wedding at the venue. I’m not sure if she didn’t know what she was doing or just didn’t care. Thankfully it was transferred into someone else’s care. Once Colleen and Kim took over the communication and planning, the staff at City Winery Hudson Valley were nothing short of exceptional. They went above and beyond to ensure every detail was taken care of, from the initial planning stages to the final send-off. Their professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail from these two women and their team made the entire experience seamless and stress-free. We truly felt like royalty on our special day! The reception space was elegantly decorated, with plenty of room for dancing and mingling. Our guests loved the unique layout and how everything felt both intimate and grand at the same time. Moreover, the catering provided by City Winery Hudson Valley was phenomenal! Our guests couldn’t stop complimenting the delicious food and impeccable service. The menu options were diverse and customizable, allowing us to create a dining experience that perfectly reflected our tastes. Finally, the location itself is a hidden gem. The picturesque surroundings allowed for stunning photo opportunities, and we were able to capture memories that will last a lifetime. If you’re searching for a wedding venue that combines beauty, elegance, and unparalleled service, look no further than City Winery Hudson Valley. We are so grateful for the incredible memories we created there and wholeheartedly recommend it to any couple looking to tie...
Read moreDespite being a patron for the past two years and enjoying several shows, I won't be returning to CW after their disastrous Mother's Day brunch. Despite making reservations a month in advance for what was advertised as a brunch with live music, the experience was disappointing. My wife, our two young children, and I arrived at 11:30, following the 11:00 door opening. While the musicians were talented, the inclusion of QR codes on the tables for tipping via Venmo felt out of place, especially considering the type of venue and event. We ordered a bottle of Cava, two appetizers, two kids' meals, and two entrees from the special brunch menu. Although the Cava arrived promptly, it was left on our table with only two glasses for us to pour ourselves and we had to request a bucket of ice, which arrived later. After an hour and 20 minutes, our children's meals and appetizers arrived, all of which were at room temperature. By this point, our wine was finished, and despite not seeing our waitress again after she left the Cava, we waited another 45 minutes for our entrees but they still hadn’t arrived. Frustrated and with restless children, we finally decided to cut our losses and tracked down our waitress and requested the check, expressing our dissatisfaction with the over two-hour wait for our meals. To our dismay, she offered no apology, removed the entrees from the bill and presented us with a handheld credit card machine with a preselected 20% gratuity. This experience put a damper on our Mother's Day, as the staff seemed overwhelmed and unable to manage the chaos. We never saw any manager addressing the issues, and it was evident that other tables were experiencing similar problems. Based on this and other reviews detailing similar chaos throughout the day, the management should be ashamed for seating more guests despite their inability to provide adequate service. It's unfortunate because the venue itself is nice, but unless significant changes are made, I won't...
