On this episode of Coffee Shop Adventures, we visit Java Blue in Montgomery, NY.
A small, cute little shop, located only a block from another coffee shop we visited last week (Iron Cafe), this place has a warm vibe going on. As you walk in, you're greeted by the people working there (always nice) and a rack or two against the wall with their own brand of raosted coffee, and little things like mugs and little treats.
We ordered the uzh (short for usual), a regular coffee for me, a latte for my wife, and three hot chocolates for the kiddos. They have choices of oat and almond milks for the dairy conscious or lactose intolerant, as 3/5 of us are. (Not me, I can still drink the real stuff.)
It seems they also have every variety of flavored syrups. I was feeling "wintery", so I had a mix of salted caramel and toasted marshmallow
They also sell food and pastries, so we got a mix of things. A couple of fresh baked croissants, a chocolate chip cookie for my daughter, a chocolate croissant for myself and my oldest son, and a chocolate croissant-lke pastry, which I forget the proper name of. It may have had Nutella in it.
The coffee was good, the pastries were really tasty. They have extra tables near the back of the shop so there's room to sit, if that's what you want to do.
The coffee was tasty enough to return for, as well as the pastries. Wish I had more time on these trips so I could try the food, too. It's also a cute little neighborhood, which is nice, because while we didn't love the Iron Café around the block (Starbucks, yuck), this place was worth coming back...
Read moreI found this place on my Find Me GlutenFree app because of my gluten/wheat allergy I need to find safe places. We brought my wife’s mom here for a nice lunch.
First thing, I will say it’s not handicap accessible. There are 3 big steps with no railings to get inside and outside.
Second thing, It looks like a tiny cafe but there is actually a bigger area with big tables seating 4-6 folks. They have an outdoor seating as well. The atmosphere is amazing. It brings me back to cafes I would go to when I was younger. Meeting friends to play board games or do cute little coffee dates or lunch dates. These are the vibes here.
We walked in and I instantly made sure to ask about the gluten free bread being made somewhere else and to be careful on cross contamination. They were absolutely fine. My wife and her mom ordered paninis - chicken salad and prosciutto mozzarella and pesto. They both got the lavender lemonade. I order their chai latte with oat milk. I bought one raspberry shortbread cookie (gluten free)and her mom got a chocolate croissant.
We found a table and sat down after we were told they would bring it to the table. Service was fast and it was even nice when they came back to ask if everything was good!
As it was time to leave, my wife’s mom ordered the last chocolate croissant because she loved it so much. And I had to try a few other things, let alone another raspberry almond shortbread bar.
We will be back and highly recommend to anyone who is gluten free or not. Who loves a good sandwich/panini or wants a nice space to get out and enjoy one’s company. This is the...
Read moreLove this place! Been here twice now and hasn't disappointed. Last time I had cauliflower soup and it was one of the best soups I've ever had. Like, licking the bowl clean delicious. Today I had tuna salad with pesto and tomato on a croissant. Sooo good. The croissants are amazing. Big and fluffy and buttery. Blueberry muffins are to die for. My wife said it was the best muffin she ever had. We ordered four more to go for us and the kids! Regular coffee is perfect, and my wife had a lavender coconut oat milk latte which she thoroughly enjoyed! The owner is friendly, kind, and patient. When we told him about a show our daughters were going to be in he offered for us to put up a flyer on the wall. It's a cute shop with several small tables in the back and just a good vibe! Great spot for...
